Crank position sensor. Check with the dealer may be covered under a recall

My 2000 was doing the same thing. Driving down the road just fine the it die & come back on. Got a letter from ford & was fixed under a recall. May be able to fine it with a Google search.

I replaced my gray one w a black and have since replaced the black one w another black one.I dont think the color makes much difference.

more than likely this is the case. possibly fuel injector driver module, but usually doesn't crank back when that goes out. valve cover gaskets been changed?

CPS, get the block number and get it from the International dealer for $45 vs. over $100 from Ford. It takes a 10mm socket.

If it doesn't crank back up, might be IDM.

My GF just replaced the CPS on our Excursion this week. the cutting off gets worse and worse. Mine got to the point it didn't want to start very well when it was cold. It runs great now and if she can replace it anyone can. Of course she is pretty hanby with a wrench and they are only like $22 now
