Does any one know of a good camping spot on the new river close to Sparta or West Jefferson. I was planning on taking the famdamily up camping this weekend...

I go to Helton Creek Campground. 16N until you cross the North Fork. Helton Rd will be the first rd on the right, bout a mile past the river. $10 a night and never more than 4-5 perm campers and 1-2 tents. I dont do crowds for a variety of reasons  :flipoff2:

There are 3 State Park campgrounds on the New River. Wagoner Road, US 221, and Alleghany County. Have stayed at Wagoner and 221. Both are very nice with very nice bath houses. Alleghany is only accessible by canoe/ kayak. Both places you have to park and walk to the campsites.
We have also stayed at Twin Rivers Family Campround. Very nice place with decent bath houses. Sites are right on the river and you can drive right up to them.

moving this to Chitchat, if there is Tech in here that I missed, please advise.

Sorry about the wrong place I have know idea why I put in general tech mint to put it in General chit chat...sorry again.

Their's a church ran campground on the New called Elk Shoals, its Methodist affiliated. It has full bath houses primative and full RV hookups, two very large picknick shelters and plenty of tables. They're also not going to come around and beat you in the head with a Bible just for being in the area, Boyscouts and other recreational groups use the camp as well. If you want to fish don't bother with the bank next to the camp, wading up streem and down from the camp has always been productive for me. Roostertails and Panther Martins on a simple spinner work real well!

ive got land about 2 minutes from rivercamp USA...ive never heard anything bad about it
