Anyone heading there for the Memorial Day weekend? I've ben a few times and it's a wicked good time. I've always had a house / hotel to stay in, but unfortunately this year I do not.

Has anyone camped overnight before? If so, does anyone know by chance if someone normally sells firewood there? Like someone driving around or is it all BYOW (Bring your own wood)

the scotchman on the road that leads to the park sells firewood. make sure you get a fire container thing, its a law now. that place has more rules than elementary school

Cool thanks. Yup I heard the laws had been changed or added that a container be used, probably a good thing no?

As long as we can still drive on, drink as much as we want, party all night... that is good enough for me and hell, should be most people. No?

I just don't like having to camp in the lanes of traffic. In the old days you could park on the beach and camp next to the dunes, quiet and private.

On a busy weekend i fear for being ran over in my tent!

yeah i'll be there since i live 7.3 miles from there:flipoff2:last year there was a truck riding thru that sold drinks, ice cream and fire wood,i dont know if the cb police stopped that or not,oh yeah they also sell ice,let me know what your wheeling and i'll see you there

thats not a bad idea,i may have to find me a broke down washer

No doubt. I was looking online for a fire pit and didn't find squat, well I did find some ghey engraved one with moons and shapes. Pretty silly...

We're normally there pretty early and usually snag a spot about 1/4 the way down. I assume we'll do the same this year.

I roll a 2dr Red '99 Cherokee. 4" with Rubicons...
My boy will be in a 4dr factory height older Cherokee.

We'll have the typical canopy tents, etc...

Those rules are being put into effect b/c of all the fucking morons that come from out of town, treat the place like they want then leave not having to deal with it later. It's getting to the point now even the locals don't care as much for it.

As far as the washing machine idea the fire pits are defined as anything that will contain fire such as a barrel an old wheel barrow ect. Therefor if you bring your washing machine as a burn pit I;m not going to stop and bust your balls for it when I do public safety patrol that weekend. I'll give you a heads up that there is a new female officer down there which I have seen but have not yet met. I do know some who have had a run in with her and a few of the regular officers down there have even said shes a beotch. No glass bottles either, The police will be on ATV's and will be looking. When the fire police and ems for the southend of the county met for there yearly meeting on who covers what district and how to handle situations down there, available resources ect the CB police made it known that to many people have gotten away with to many things in the past and things are going to change.

its amazing that some of the CB police want to crack down on people, when i know for a fact a few on there have done some foul shit in their day,is fatass Larry Ward and dickhead Chris Latham still down there,i used to do all my groc shopping and dining down there until i had a run in with those two,now i dont spend any of my money on that island, except that 50.00 they charged for the pass this year

They can still patrol and do their job without being dickheads. Two CB police parked beside my tent at 7am and layed on the siren and horn untill I woke up to ask to see my reciept to make sure I paid my 10 bucks. I'm sorry, that is over the top and unnecessary.

THATS BEING A DICKHEAD,CB'S FINEST RIGHT THERE

one more thing Josh ,what about grilles, any new guidelines we should be aware of

No a dickhead is when you make a tight uturn and get pulled the the donut you were ABOUT to cut. Once the officer saw my gear, realized who I was his attitude quickly changed. He then said he would let me go b/c of who I work for. After a call to his supervisor and some town officials he no longer patrols that beach. Latham is now a detective from what I hear. DOn't hear much from him since a buddy of mine got walked in on him on his b-day in bed with his girl other than the fact he married a girl I used to bar hop with . :fuck-you:

Unless something has changed I don't know about grilles are still not an issue

2 things.....

1: Dont talk bad about law enforcement officers you may have a run in with on day. Im sure they have computers too! In fact, dont talk bad about law enforcement at all. they have a tough and thankless job, you try doing and not be a jerk once in a while! (josh C, sounds like your some sort of safety official, you should know this!)

2: this isnt the garage......i'm not mod, just a reminder to help keep this place kid friendly. Some of the language in this thread might get ya in trouble if not kept in check.

And now for some helpful contribution to the thread an not just my whining about other users, lol.

If you need a fire pit, use an old 2.5 ton rim. They are 20 inches in diam and thats plenty big enough. you can have them for fairly cheep. I think there were a few in the forsale section. If theres non there, Delks has them for around $20.00.

Oh, sorry....its a HUGE army navy surplus store in asheboro. Its on hwy 64 (before you get to 109 if coming from raleigh)

They have about 5 acres of military vehicles and a huge warehouse full of surplus goods.

You can get anything from rockwell axles to helicopter bodies! Combat boots to fighter pilot helmets. its pretty cool, you should check it out sometime.

its obvious you dont know the CB POLICE,9 out of 10 of them are pretty cool, but a few of them must have gotten picked on in grade school, why does everyone always take up for the police, they are humans just like you and me,they chose the profession, everything i said about these two officers i said to their face along with their police chief, their response (we could lock you up)my response(i'll be out before the ink dries on the paperwork,my best friends own the largest bailbonding offices in this part of the state, theres no lanuage printed here that isnt said on national tv

Red, this forum has to be family friendly, not kid friendly.
Ease back out of that non-moderator throttle just a hair, do you have more experience with the local police to these folks than they do? I've met flipper and JoshC, their descriptions of the occifers actions sound like dickhead moves to me for sure. I'm generally with you on support them, thankless job, not enough money or respect, but bad apples exist in all places.

Fair enough. the garage is still a better place to blow of steam though.

after re reading this thread.....washers and wheels are huge! Anyone know of any other fire pit thats a bit more portable?

I dont why doing it the way i was doing it is no good,i used to dig a hole about 2ft deep and 2-3 ft across and build my fire then when it wnet out or i was ready to leave just fill the hole back up,but sitting here thinking probably some dumb***(see no cussing,RED) didnt fill in the hole and theres a accident waiting to happen

yeah...thats the way i did it. this is the first ive heard of needing a container....thats why im looking for something smaller than a washing machine! lol.

The ACE hardware sells tin containers kinda like this one:

BUT they over price the hell out of them. Pick up your own at Lowes like I'm gonna do. I'll be camping out on CB memorial day weekend.

I favored the burn regs for 2 reasons

Not everyone takes the time to dig holes deep enough to cover the left over fire and remains. Thus at some point it may or can be exposed again and cause vehicle damage such as a tire failure or personal injury.

Also only natural items can be burned such a firewood. Lumber can't be burned due to the chemicals treated lumber gives off and also pallets contain nails and staples which could be a safety hazard espeically to small children playing in the area later.

Not sure if I'm going to sign up that weekend to work or not. I did last year and spent all day on the jet ski doing water rescue or in the brush truck patrolling for vehicle fires/assisting in rescue/medical calls. I may just sit back and enjoy the weather. If I'm out and about I'll be in a blue TJ on 40's

Where can you drive on the beaches at? My buddies and me are getting back from Iraq around the end of june and got a place near Salter Path. Any help is appreciated!!
