I just got access to a small dozer for a few weeks. It has a problem that I'd like to fix for the owner. One of the tracks comes off easy and the adjuster might be broken. I can't seem to find any info on how the adjuster is supposed to work or what might be broken. Here's an exploded diagram and parts list.

BTW - Trying to avoid taking it apart in case it isn't something I can fix since it is somewhat usable as it is now.

Link is broken. On our Komatsu, it uses a grease pressure cylinder much like a hydraulic. We had to rebuild the seal, as it was leaking down. The seal itself was fairly easy, and we were able to hold the track out of the way with a bottle jack and some creative thinking.

Yup, looks like it is the grease type. You load it full of grease through a zerk until you achieve the proper tension. We use these on the ACE (armored combat earthmover). I don't know how big the 310 is, but the ACE takes A LOT of grease. It is not fun to fill.

Yeah, that fitting on top of part #3 or 4 should be the grease zerk, and part #1 is probably a cover for that zerk. Don't forget about part #6, that big spring. Make sure it is secured and isn't going to jump out and get you.

use a bottle jack to get the track tight. lay a straight edge across the track ( 4 ft level works good ) you wont several inches between the track and level measuring across the rollers. a tight track just wears out the rollers and rides like crap. when that is said and done measure the stroke of the ram sticking out. cut a peace of angle iron the same length and clamp it on with 2 exhaust clamps. works to get equipment back the the trailor to load up or to get to the service truck. I have also seen farmers runner there loaders/ dozers for years like this and not fix anything?
