Cast Mounts on a HP44

No on 78-79 axles they are cast into it. What can be done? Just work around them. I saw leaf springs mounted to one and they just welded the mounts over it and drilled though it.

I wondered about that with the D30 as well. For those of us that have nothing better to do but sink money in D30s.. :D

Here's some pics...

What jon said. Except retubing sucks pretty good. Build a set of extended radius arms and be done with it. I mean, radius arms are all the rage in the jeep world?

I am running 18" extended radius arms w rod ends that I sleeved and plated with at least 1/2" with Fox 16" Coilovers on a HP Dana 44 out of a 79 F150. I am using a Bronco Graveyard Track bar (superlift i think). I have no rub especially the radius arms with 2.5 back spaced 16x10s with 38.5x13.5s. Also on the D44 I run Tierod over Knuckle steering w rod ends. I need hi steer cause my radius arm setup flex is limited by my tierod rod ends...
BTW my radius arms are not bent like others that allow for beter castor and wheel fitment
I will try to get a pic of my radius arms tomarrow...

Yeah those are pretty nice depending on what they have going on for caster there. There are countless different ways to do them. Not as good as a true 4 link front but certainly not the worst suspension out there either. and about 1/6 the cost.

:edit: ^What a piece.

yep 1/8 the cost if you keep the radius arms straight.....
my castor is probibly real bad but I cant tell it shakes at 65 bad but I think it is my pto drive shaft but I still drive it everyday.....
:poop:

ive done 2 sets of those and i would be happy to make you a set. that set up rides and drives better than a stock cherokee. its also nice because you can get diffrerent degree c bushings from energy suspension to offset the pinion angle for the amount of lift you have.

he probally had a 76 or 77 dana44 they are welded on the the axle tube and can be taken off. thats what makes them more desireable.

I've thought of cutting the points off the wedges to make a flat spot on the front and rear of the axle. Then drilling and tapping the flat spots to bolt on a link mount that wraps all the way around them. But really thats a lot of work for an axle that your likely gonna be unhappy with in time anyway. For the time and trouble your gonna have in making a cast axle work you could just save a little longer and buy a earlier axle with welded wedges or hold out for a f250 axle with flattops and better brakes. Either way if your on a budget and really dont want to invest that much coin into the axle I could build you a set of arms like this
