That time of year again...I've got 4 CAT group 4D batteries that are a little over 5 years old. They were in generators & have always been on a charger until they were loaded in the back of my truck a couple of weeks ago. Will not ship as they weigh ~120# each. I'll be in Albemarle this weekend and can meet there or along the route (I85, I73, Hwy49) if it works out. First-come first-served & free to a good home! I'm just passing along the discount I get, but I wouldn't say no to some Coors or Coors Light!

Specs from Caterpillar:
  • Application: Starting
  • Equipment Type: INDUSTRIAL
  • Grid Type: Calcium Lead Alloy Grid Design
  • Accessible Vent Caps: Accessible Vent Caps
  • Voltage (volts): 12
  • Cold Cranking Amps (CCA): 1400
  • Group Size: 4D
  • Battery Type: Wet
  • Maintenance Type: Maintenance Free
  • Terminal: SAE posts
  • AMP Hr Cap @ 20 Hrs: 200
  • Reserve Capacity (Mins): 425
  • Length (in): 19.3
  • Width (in): 8.6
  • Height (in): 9.9 (top of posts)

If you make it up to Winston, or along the way to myrtle I'll take one. If not, no biggie.

I don't make it to Winston often, but I'll be in High Point tomorrow if that's close enough. I'll be in Myrtle Beach June 11-14.

Done.
I'm halfway to myrtle beach. But I'll keep an eye out here. Like I said, no big deal if it don't work out.

Can anyone tell me how one of these would perform as a 12v trolling motor battery? Batteries are magic as far as I am concerned. I Figure, the bigger the battery the more magic or possibly longer magic?

I can tell you the ones in my dad's & grandpa's jon boats (family gets first dibs) like them just fine....pretty much boils down to longer magic, but I haven't been on the water in way too long to confirm!

FYI - I may get my hands on some more this fall so keep an eye out.

It's all about amp-hours, and these have a lot. Of course they are heavy SOBs. Imagine the drag of having an extra person in the boat. But 2-3x the life of a regular sized battery.

If memory serves, these are ~200 AH, which is a lot. I use one as a 12V supply for my radio gear and I can run a week and not get below 11V.

Sounds like these would make a great house battery for the motorhome. Put me on the list for one of the next batch.

My 14’ Jon boat needs more weight up front and was thinking this would be the most useful solution. Are they all spoken for?
Yes. Right now they're all spoken for, but I'll let you know if anymore become available.

Will do...just don't hold it against me if I forget!

I had 2 set aside for a project I have in mind, but it looks like that won't be happening anytime soon. Long story short, would either/both of you be available to meet either Friday or Monday evening in the Whitsett area?

Wish you were closer, I just bought a 4D battery today….
I may start a list of people that want/need group 4D & 8D batteries since those are the ones I can get. You'd be one of the lucky ones that I could deliver to since I'm in Greenville & Winterville once a month!

I can easily meet most any time. Pretty flexible.
