Buddy of mine is being jerked around by the inspection station, so he needs to put a cat on his 96 F250 diesel. This is about the most unamerican thing I can think of, but he's in the middle of it. Also, he will be selling the truck soon, so he might consider a trade plus cash for a 2004+ F150 crewcab 4x4 in good shape.

Why not just take it elsewhere? Didn't even know they had cats on the pre-SD 7.3s. His Cali truck or something?

    Probably a manual trans.

I assume now it is flagged in the system since it failed. Maybe I'm wrong.

Had a friend here go through the same thing on the same truck. It is an auto.

The inspection book shows those years having a cat but no muffler. He put a cheap straight-thru universal job on his.

Pretty sure I have one. I took one off a 95 with 99k miles not too long ago. It still has the flange to bolt it to the downpipe. I'll look and let you know.

From what I've seen, all of the 94.5-97 trucks had cats and most of the 99-03 7.3s did not.

I'll be just south of Asheville Thursday evening. Let me know if you can find it. Thanks!

Unfortunately my memory is somewhat non existant. I found the exhaust I took off and now I remember taking the cat off this truck several years ago. I had another one but I know it went to the recycler a while back.
