CB Antenna mounting locations

Well I finally found out a couple of weeks ago that my location for mounting my antenna was no good. I had it mounted to the rear plastic bumper cover on my ZJ. While playing behind a friends house it got ripped off. Now im trying to use a more strategic approach instead of just mounting it any ole place. So where are all you ZJ guys mounting your antennas?

anyway to brace it to the bumper with metal? I have a TJ and I took a metal corner brace, screwed one side to the tirecarrier, the other side was sitting perfect for my CB,

The best option, in my opinon, is to drill into the metal bumper carrier and mount the bracket off that through the plastic bumper. I have also seen several ZJ's done with the old school ball mount through the quarter panel. If you're using a short antenna you could go magnet mount on the roof, or mount it to the roof rack rail.

thanks guys/gals for the feedback, I guess I should have mentioned im using one of the fiberglass antennas I think its 3' long. Im not a big fan of mounting it to the roof, I would like to have it mounted in a location where I could mount it and leave it mounted, not have to take it off for clearance issues.
I guess I could try the bumper carrier idea, I may just take the plastic cover off and go with that.

Front bumper an option? At least you will SEE it getting ripped off from there.....

If you have a stock bumper it would look retarded. But if you have a nice beefy front bumper for instance an ARB, it would look pretty good... and wouldnt get ripped off as easily. Mine is mounted to the rear quarter panel on a 1/2" peice of metal. Im supprised its still on there!

You probably cant see it on this pic but its a 3' aentenna as well.

got that mount at radioshack...took taillight off and drilled the mount into the body at the top of the taillight and put the taillight back on, and the mount is between the body and taillight and sticks outward.

Thats exactly what I want, thanks for the post and pic.

I've got a similar mount on my WJ, but instead of the antenna sticking out of the side, the mount comes out of the rear, above the tail light.

does it not interfere with opening the back hatch? That would be an ideal location, less chance of it getting snagged on anything.

theres no place to mount it to unless you did it into the hatch itself on the backside of the top of the taillight. mines screwed into the body ontop of the taillight

sorry about the mud picture, its the best shot i've got of wheres its located...right after some muddin w/my friend on his land

you can see where the hatch ends verses where i've got it there solid body panel above the taillight that i've got it screwed into

yeah, screwing it into the hatch itself doesnt seem like it would work when opening the back hatch, unless you made sure to have enough cable but then you have to worry about making sure the cable gets all tucked back in when closing the hatch, I think Ill stick with grandjeeps idea, thanks guys.

for anyone reading with a TJ...

Ive got mine on the drivers side of the rear bumper. One of the braces that the bumper uses to stay on the body has a nice 1/2 sized hole in it that I simply screwed it on with. Only downside is the cable sticks about 2" or so down from the bumper, but really with where the Gas Tank is, for now I doubt I will tear it out that easily.

I had to drill holes in the stock license plate mount for back there, and thread the antenna through it, but it looks good and works fine.

I bought one of those nifty antenna mount brackets for my G/Fs TJ, it mounts behind the tail light on the drivers side I believe.

my buddies tj has one of those kits that has that mount, and a mount for the inside that sets a little midland right on the top of the dash right at the inspection sticker

Bah...I just realized the rear hatch design is different on ZJ's and WJ's. Don't think that'll work for you, sorry.

A quick pic of mine and another option for a ZJ

the mount above the taillight is the best ive seen for a zj with stock rear bumper... as said make sure you put a spring at the base, itll save it from getting ripped off

I dont see how when it gets snagged it doesnt rip off and take the tailight out with it? Guess it works tho if yall have it on there.

Picked this bracket up from a local CB shop outside of Hendersonville. Then I've got a big ol' spring with a 4' fiberglass on it. Sure, I've gotten the "unicorn" name-calling a few times, but it works for me!

yeah you need a spring on the bottom or you'll have to get out and either take it off or move it when the trail gets tight i still dont have a spring on mine, and i've had to get out and swing bend it around a tree a couple times

Check this out...............
