Any one else had to recover data from a phone? Mine got ran over and tried board swapping but it was damaged, so I'm going to need someone or a company with a system capable of extracting the data from the internal storage without the phone working...

Isn't it all backed up to the cloud? You should be able to restore a new phone from your backups. It'll take a couple of hours. Just make sure you do it over wifi. It'll eat up whatever data cap you have in a hurry.

No, I'm an anti cloud guy. Run Windows 2k pro or XP pro. I had been meaning to dump it to the computer but that didn't happen before it got damaged.

I can't imagine that the services you are wanting are going to be cheap. Is the data you are looking to recover worth it?

i have extraction software, but i have to be able to have the phone turn on and receive power. broken screens/etc arnt an issue

If the phone won't turn on, and your data isn't on an external SD card, and you opted out of backing up your data, you're fucked.

I mean, this isn't what you want to hear right now... but I could go flush my phone down the toilet right now, and the most PITA part of getting my data back would be driving to the store to buy a new phone. Two hours after that, my stuff would all be back on the phone and I'd be up and running again.

if you kept contacts stored on the sim, you should be good to as far that data goes. if you have a cdma phone with verizon/sprint/uscell newer phones auto upload contacts into the cloud unless you have that feature turned off.

i agree with shawn. short of a guru hooking the mobo up and doing hollywood style extraction (after replacing a burnt out parts) - youre screwed

Yeah, that's what I was looking for was low level technical extraction. I can do it if it would have powered up but it won't. I suspect the board is cracked internally.

Looking at calling these guys tomorrow.. Cell Phone Data Recovery | Datatech Labs. Thought maybe someone might have had to have it done before but, apparently not. I know my dad had recovery of a hard drive that died.. with many years of irreplaceable data on it.

Lol. Almost 6 months of invoices. And about 100 contacts (350 were backed up a year ago, only lost 100 since then). And there were a few good pics but she's still married to me lol. She can't do much about it when she's... Oh wait, nevermind.

Curious, what do you use for backup? Local NAS or a cloud service?

All of the above. If you have an android phone, all of your data is automatically backed up to google. So plug in your account name and password, and all of your apps, contacts, photos, music, email, etc, is downloaded to the new phone.

In addition to that, I have some files mirrored to services like Dropbox, and others mirrored to the server at the house. Basically, if I own the data, I can get to it from my phone.

Data tech labs says they can do recovery directly from the internal storage on the phone. 300-1000 was their over the phone ball park for a compromised board phone. about what I expected. 2-5 day typical turn around except extreme cases, mine being a common recovery. Good news I guess. Not having the data off it will cost me more than that.
