Cell Phone Numbers going Public

Got this email, Wondering if there is any truth to it.

IT states that you should call this number 888-382-1222 to have your cell number added to do not call list.

First I have heard of it, Now the email came from a good source, Not sure how he got it though.

So this time its real even though that e-mail has been circulating for 5 years now?

Immediately after reading your first post I googled just the phone #. The first site that comes up is the federal do not call site- the # is obviously legit. The second is snopes with a good explanation on why the e-mail isn't true.

Anyone can look up a phone #, even the whitehouse switchboard is (or at least was) publicly listed.

If I make up an e-mail saying everyone call the whitehouse or we're going to invade canada does that make it true just because I can get the right phone #?


Edit: I guess we should get clear what the e-mail really said. If it just said "add your # to the do not call list" then that's probably just good advice. If the e-mail was warning about cellphone numbers about to be released in bulk to telemarketers than yeah, its a chicken-little story that's been going on for more than a half-decade.
