So who has cell service in Uwharrie or even the outpost and who is your carrier?

I used to have service in a few places around the Outpost and in the woods
I got Tmobile and think my phone is just crap now.

Tryin to get some ideas on switchin.

brandon and i were talking about this last nite. Verizon is about the only carrier that has service and its spotty at best. basically the ridge tops while your on trails. theres service at the outpost.

Yeah I got Tmobile. used to have service at the outpost, Jonnies (stables)... etc. and on RML and top of Daniel.
thanks guys for feedback. My shit is up in June, either a new phone or new company
and just for shits and giggles I checked out each companies maps. Not sure I believe some of them.

is reception a function of the service provider or the phone itself?

I have had spotty service at the outpost, top of Daniel, then over by the lake, Falls Dam parking lot. That was all with alltel and various motorola phones, I dont think I've been to URE since I got switched to verizon.

Several spots at URE have good reception w/ verizon. I have had service at the Outpost, the stables and even at Lorenzo's g/f's house..lol but it's off and on depending on the wind, I guess..lol

I'm with verizon, I don't pay attention to my service while im actually wheeling, but I don't remember ever not having service when we were stopped at kodak or anything getting a bite to eat. Definatly have service at the outpost.

thats funny. :fuck-you: thanks Dylan for the laugh.
hey you did sleep on the floor right. :poop:
well I think my phone is just dropped one too many times. I used to have service all up and down blaine road, the outpost and RML...
looks like verizon or I'll try another phone with tmobile.

Slept on the :flipoff2:couch!

It depends on the provider first, and their towers, plus their roam agreements with other providers. Then, I think there is a difference in plans. My in-laws are on Verizon with a real cheap plan, and I have coverage lots of places they don't work well. Finally, the individual phone model will make a difference .

I have verizon, and good coverage most everywhere at UNF with my phone (or, at least my old phones, just got a new one, hope it receives as well).

That is a tough terrain to cover. Usualy GSM based carries such as TMOBILE and ATT have decent service in areas like URE tht have trees foothills and valleys. CDMA service like Verizon requires a triangulation of towers to have optimal service in an area. Troy isn't exactly a heavily populated area so having multiple towers is not that profitable for a cell company. I believe someone mentioned the roaming agreements above, that does have a good bit to do with it. In rural areas like that multiple companies will all use one tower. But CDMA carriers use each other's towers such as Us Cell and Verizon. Likewise for ATT and TMOBILE. That all being said, Verizon is the best service provider wherever you are. :)

I've had good cell service on parts of daniel and dutch john. As others have said, only at the top.

Heck, 5 years ago I went up "the ledge" on daniel while talking to my girlfriend on the phone . Also I have sent pic messages from the top of dutch john.

I think I've gotten decent reception at the group campground.

No hope for nextel haha I have noticed better service with different phones
I hate it but dont wanna change.

I've been making calls from the outpost with Verizon since 2001 that I can remember. Somewhere around 2005 I noticed much improved signal at Arrowhead campground, and in many places on the trails.

FWIW, I've got an LG VX8300 from about 2004, with a 1" external antenna.

I use verizon and had service on most trails (near the higher spots) and at the campgrounds (upper loop never camped at the lower loop). I can use my internet at the campground and outpost as well. That was the case last year anyway. I think it depends on the carrier, phone, and weather. I will find out thi year again but I don't thik it would be worse?

Same here, Minus the G/F comment

I'm on Verizon now that they bought out Alltel, and generally get decent service around the forrest.

That said, several friends have verizon as well, and don't get good service, so I'm convinced its becuase of my 1999 Kyocera 2135...
