Alright my starter went out on my 96 xj, i got a new starter and put it in and it won't start now even when i try to jump it. Before i took the old starter out i could start it by jumping it off. Now i'm frustrated because i don't know what else to do. Thank you for any input you can give.

Starter wasnt the problem if you could jump it before.
I am betting its a loose wire.

well before i had to wack the starter in order for it to start. i think the batter isnt fully charged as its sat for a couple weeks but i've tried jumping it with the new starter and nothing happens when i turn the ignition

I could only get it to start it someone was wacking on the starter while someone else turn the ignition. doing this caused the battery to die.

Check ALL your ground wires and starter relay connections.

I agree with 89wrangler a bad ground will do the samething and the wacking the starter may have helped complete the circuit. Cleaning all your terminals and checking your connections should help.

i was searching around on naxja and read about the NSS issues and have decided i should go ahead and do the bypass mod and charge my battery and see where i'm at. Before the jeep stopped starting regularly i had to jiggle the shifter to get it to turn on.

Make sure it's in PARK before you jump the solenoid or tear anything else out/up!

(Not that I've ever witnessed a buddy's Mustang crank when "jumped" [because it's not supposed to crank in "R" ], start, run at high idle, back itself out of the carport, the tires roasting over on the concrete floor when the doors caught against the brick walls... until they were ripped almost completely off! And then he had the nerve to hit me because I was laughing! )

The moral of the story is do NOT become a "teaching example"!

dingdingding, this is probably the problem. I did mine a month or 2 ago. Try starting in neutral, that might happen. Instead of bypassing, I just cleaned my NSS up.
