Changing registration on enclosed trailer to register as an RV?

Actually need to do this on mine.

It has to have four of the following:
1. Cooking
2. Refrigeration or ice box
3. Self contained toilet
4. Heating or Air conditioning
5. Portable water supply system including a faucet and sink
6. Separate 110-125 volt electrical power supply or an LP gas supply

And you have to surrender the title with a title correction form, plus pay a title fee.

You still have to worry about weight, but only the weight under the tires of the truck. So if you've got a 7500# truck with 4500# of pin and cargo, you need a +12k tag.

Probably do this tomorrow or Friday, I'll let you know how it goes. Hopefully mine's easy, b/c it was factory-built with everything on the list.

Ok, it has:
Shower with hot water heater/water tank
A/C
plenty of lights/115 outlets, I have a generator to power it, that counts as the 'power supply' right?
A 'coleman' style toilet, no 'tank' on the trailer, but the toilet is 'self contained'.

Is the registration on an 'rv' trailer cheaper than a regular trailer? I COULD pay $75 for a permanent trailer tag, and up my truck to probably 22-24K, which would be probably $300-$400 a year.

If I can't get a permanet 'rv' tag, and it costs more to tag it as an RV each year, I might not come out ahead.

Main reason behind this is to save the $250-$300/year on the tag for the truck.

When I converted the Uhaul over to a 'house car' (aka RV) it was cake at the DMV. I submitted the change of title form, paid, and that was it. They didn't even ask what/if anything had been done. Though they asked me 5x what the length was... apparently that is critical to know for RVs ;) For the Uhaul the insurance company was more worried about all that stuff, but for a trailer that should be np...

RV tags cost less per year than regular trailer tags, and you can't get a permanent tag with an RV title. 13k truck tag is $130 plus like $5 in fees.

Alright, so Cyd went to the DMV today with a Corrected or Substituted Title Application to change the title for the trailer to a "CT" style trailer.

At first, the girl at the counter didn't know what to do, so she went to ask somebody. They said that she'd have to call a DMV inspector and make an appointment for them to come out and verify what the title was supposed to be. Depending on what the inspector said, they'd give us a form or something that we could bring into the DMV.

Well, that sounds like a PITA.

So she went over to the title office up the street to try again. At first, they said that if the DMV had titled it incorrectly, she'd have to take it there to have them fix it. But Cyd explained to her that it was titled incorrectly when we bought it, and they told her then that we'd have to wait until we got the title in our name, then apply for a corrected title and pay $15 (which is true). So the title lady printed out a new copy of the MVR-5 already filled out, notarized it, and Cyd signed it.

Total cost was $15 for the title change and $5 for the notary.

I have the corrected registration in hand. It says the body style is "CT" and the Classification is "Private Trl w/Sleeping Quarters".

So... I guess the bottom line is that if you don't get the answer you want, try talking to somebody else. Worst case, you might have to do the DMV inspector thing like the classic car guys do.
