Cherokee Conversion

I already told him it wasn't worth it, but he won't take my word for it and my buddy asked me to post anyways.

He has a '91 2wd cherokee and he wants to convert it to 4wd. He was wondering how hard this would be and what he would have to do.

Theres a guy selling a 97 Cherokee without a title for $250 on our Forum. I am going to buy the steering box, Front Drive shaft and Brake booster but every thing else(except the motor is there.
 
Probly one of the easiest vehicles to convert. Just take front axle from 4x4 xj transmission and transfercase with shifter both drive shafts, it will be a direct bolt in. I would buy a wrecked xj and remove all parts and junk the rest it would be cheaper than junk yard.
 
HAHA wow Reed, he is going insane now that he doesn't have the Dodge isn't he? But yea it wouldn't be too bad, think we could keep a wrench in his hand long enough to finish it though?
 
I dunno, it be fun but we'd have to slather the wrench in bbq sauce first. If we hadn't gone to that damn concert his truck wouldn't be wrecked and braden's jeep wouldn't be exploding again. And if it ended up in my driveway Bearded would freak.....alright i'm game, lets do it
 
very easy conversion, as stated above. I have friends in the rust belt (Salt the roads in snowstorms) that buy rust free 2x4 from the south and put all the gear from low milage rust buckets up north and sell really nice 4wd cherokees.

make sure you get the right spline count on the transfer case input shaft for the current transmission and if you get a disconnect front axle make sure you get all the Vacuume lines from the transfer case to the shift motor and the little bracket welded to the body for the transfer case linkage, to weldonto the 2wd body.

I sold everything you need to do this conversion to Rockcity on this board. I dont think he ever got around to doing it and he was looking to unload all of the parts. It might be worth a try to PM him and see if hes still got any of it.
