cherokee or yota

xj....you can haul more gear,or the family, or whatever, out of the rain. But, I see folks giving the yoters hell and they go great and are cheap. I am just a jeep man.

I'ts hard to beat a Yota.....you can build em cheap, and they do awesome on the trail

yota :)

unibody's suck (fact, not opinion, hehe)

well...........ive had a bunch of both. 1st gens and ckees are by far the best out the box offroad toys out there ever made (excluding ur 25,000 rubis <idiots)

with the 1st gens you get nice factory gearing a solid well built front axle and rear with cheap locking options. a little weak on motor and also limited space. tons of after market support and lots of them around.

cherokees have iffy axles and a unibody and weak factory gears, but you get a nice solid motor and transmison. (that i personally think is one of the best long lasting milage combos out there -4.0/aw4) you can find axles everywhere ready to be bolted in with geasrs and lockers. tons and tons of after market out there. along with cherokees in every back yard for 200-1,000 all day. Although it will take a little more cash to lift the cherokee due to a unibody coils up front and a Sye needed. in the end i belive the cherokee is the better choice due to a better motor/tranny..more room to haul gear and friends...and a better apperance :)

^^^ well said

IMO, if you are into the larger body, then get an 80s Yota 4Runner, not truck.
That way you get everything in the Pro side of being Yota mention above, plus space for the family... and even better... you can remove the top for that more open/convertable feeling.

Exact reason why i got my 4runner. It is a pop top and there is tons of room in the back for stuff :)

The 22r / 22re is a great lasting motor also, and have been known to last well over 200,000. The 4.0 is one hell of a motor too (C-Kee)........ I am still running a G-52 series Toyota Tranny and I have managed to break the output shaft in the rear 4.7 T-case (ALOT OF TQ). The Tranny held up great........ (the W-56 is the strong tranny or R-series is better) True the 4.0 in the C-Kee is strong and torquey. It's way stronger than the 2.4 in the Yota's.......... However, I know what I put mine through, and it holds up too it. Everything in it is stock except for the front axle shafts, the gear set in the rear case, and the adaptor to mate the 2 cases together. Toyota is some strong shit, and they perform well.......... The stock axle shafts in the front of a Toyota will hold and turn 38'' inch tires........ I have seen several people do it for along time. You will never turn 38's and beat on a C-Kee stock (Dana30/35) out of the box.......... like you can a stock geared/axled Toyota. I am not bashing Jeeps, but I have wheeled enough and seen enough....... Out of the Box...... Toyota has it. You can build a very, very capable yota for cheap too.

Yotas. If I could fit in one, I'd own and wheel the piss outta one.

get a fj80... solid platform... room for the family and you can also find one with lockers.

or 85 4runner... very cheap too build has the 22re

i knew this would be a good post when i saw it posted haha.

last time i checked jamie not many vehicles could run 38's "out the box" and also not every cherokee has a turdy 5 in the rear. the 97^ 29 spline 8.25's are pretty darn strong for a stock light weight suv axle and u can find cherokees with D44's all day long but u have to look around a lil. it would be one hell of a match if someone did a stock cherokee vs stock first gen writeup. im by no means bashing a yota...ive owned my fair share and i love seeing a nice 1stgen just as much as anyone on this board. i just dont see where there can be a out right winner...both are damn good dd's, light duty rigs, or extreme crawlers...... :flipoff2::beer:

if u run 38's on stock fronts in a yota there will be lots of birf changing????correct?

Metalmangler (SHAWN) has only broken 1 birf in 5 years that one he broke was as "pull cable" in Mountain city.... He turned 39'' boggers like a crazy wild man:fuck-you:

I turned 35'' boggers for alittle while on a WELDED front diff. with birf's and never broke one.:fuck-you:

Cumminsdzl turned 36'' TSL like a hell raiser for awhile on birfs and never broke one with an aussie installed.:fuck-you:

Cornbread (Darrel)turns 36'' TSL's with bead locks and steal rims and a welded front diff. and has broken one.:fuck-you:

Most of the boys in Cali. run the hell out of birfs........:driver:

Do they break? Yep........ if you keep the steering straight when you hammer down............. your usually golden. Set them steering stops all of the way out and get some!

C-Kee is probably my favorite out of all Jeeps..... I like them. I guess I am just parcel to Yota. Stock yota stuff is easy to MOD and fairly cheap too.........

ps.... I like busting your nutz! LOL.......

What he said ^^^

yea dylan you got a nice cherokee it did work a few weeks ago when i saw it
Thanks man. I am trying to get used to it, after having a TJ for so long. I definately like the room inside.
X2 on the unibody being a drawback, but that can be fixed well enough with a little cash and work.
And I do wish I had a removable top, like a 4 runner, but I have to wait till I roll and/or smash the top to crap before I get an open top jeep again...lol can you say SAWZALL?:bounce2:

gotta go with the yota....they gots that great IFS from the factory, just can't beat it :shaking:

but i do have respect for the yotas, i loved my 86 4runner, but the cherokee is just sweet and takes the cake imo, plus, it's AMERICAN!!!

i am a cherokee owner however the yotas constantly impress me.
its a matter of opinion, use or how far you want to mod it i guess
