Anyone near Greensboro that can turn the AFM off on my 07 Tahoe? I've had a lifter collapse 2 separate times now since I've owned it and want to do away with it. I can get a "Range" disabling device that plugs in and stays in the OBD2 port for around $150, but would rather have it permanently deleted from the ECM, if someone could do it for around that price.

The best thing to do would be change the cam, lifters, and the other stuff to get rid of it completely....and then disable it.

It'll cost you at least 100 bucks to disable it with HP Tuners just for the tuning credits.

I would but on a tight budget at the moment. Wish I would have done that the first time around though. This time I was able to get the lifter unstuck and am going to try and disable the AFM and run with it as long as possible.

Like he said, it will cost at least $100 for someone with HP to unlock the pcm and tune the AFM/DOD out. This will get rid of the annoyance of it coming on/off, but will not do much to save the lifters. The lifters themselves are generally the issue, not the passages, controls or actuator. Best and most reliable way to go is pull the heads and change out the lifters for the normal LS7 style lifters.

That's what I'm looking for, someone with an HP tuner I can borrow and pay $100 for the credits. I fully agree that replacing the lifters and cam to the non AFM ones is the best way, but I'm on a super tight budget, and the tahoe has around 240k on it. I really just need it to get me by a little longer until I can save to do it the right way or trade it on a something else.

I've got HPT and have done it before. It's surprisingly easy to be honest. My buddy did the delete kit on an 08 Escalade with a direct replacement non DOD/AFM cam, but it kept the VVT, which is kinda nice.

I think you have to change the valley cover so it will block off the oil passages to the lifters. But you're right...the lifters are usually the only real issue.

Most, if not all, of those hand held tuners VIN lock themselves to one vehicle at a time.

@Possumb84 If you ever make it down to New Bern, I can help you out.

Would a good scan tool be able to do this? Something like an Autel or snap-on?

They don't allow you to make ECM modifications. You need some kind of software editor.
