Chevy dual wheel dana 60

Supply and demand. Usually a low pinion dually axle will go for $650-900 depending on gear ratio. 4.56 is most valued. People wanting a srw 60 will pay more for a srw than a drw just because it has the correct hubs. Someone running non recentered h1s would rather have a drw. I paid $750 for my drw and another $500 just in srw hubs!

If you're patient, you can find one cheap. It helps if you have a hook up with freight shipping as well so you can broaden your search area. I bought a 78/79 high pinion Ford Dana 60 for 800 bucks from a guy up north, had it shipped to work for 105 bucks. Not a bad deal and it was in decent shape, but it got a rebuild and some upgrades anyway.

I've never been lucky enough to find a Dana 60 in a junkyard though.

I took it as he was selling one and wanted to know how much to ask...? And ditto on the ones from up north.

Ahh, didn't think of that! I'd bet one of us made a correct assumption though :D

Or perhaps he owns a junkyard o_O

I found a ford high pinion Dana 60 front one time at the local pull apart. I was on my way home from work and spotted it in a fresh '88 f350 srw. With not one tool in hand I rushed home to grab my tool box and straight back there and sure enough it was gone. Not the most desirable 60 but none the less, I could have bought it for ~$200.

From the time I left til I got back with tools was about an hour. Long enough I guess lol. I'm convinced it was an inside job

I really wanted to kinda check the market and see what a fair deal was before heading out on my search.
I have pulled a bunch of 8.8's out of one of the local pull a part $40 each. You just had to carry it across the scale...about 50' Shoulder harness made of seat belts and dead lift and walk. No tough to do that with a 60 though...

I also have a source up north but axles can be nice or rust balls.

Best advice I can give is if you're buying one to build, try finding just a bare housing. Way cheaper to buy and since everything on the final spec sheet will be aftermarket or upgrade parts then no need to buy a complete.

Luckily you're looking for a Chevy axle. They can be had cheap. I've actually turned down a few that I could have bought for 400-600 bucks and if I'd have had the cash at the time, I would have bought them out of sheer principal.

Not sure that I'd go as far as buying a bare housing to build...by the time you were done building and beefing you'd be well on your way to having as much money in it as you would a Rockwell, depending on what you did. Hell, just a rebuild on the last two I did was ridiculous....from the knuckles out is where it gets pricey and FAST. I would definitely scour Craigslist and any other forum or classified section for one though.

I guess you'll still have a pile of money in it either way
