Anybody got a good RELIABLE source for what hits and what fits on this topic? I currently run a 93 TBI mated to a vacuum/TV 700r. Have 2 of these trannies (1 is spare) and like them so far= would like to keep them. Currenty have gotten bored with the TBI and am looking for more zip and looking at late model Vortecs. I know that these are typically mated to the L480E, so will my 700R bolt up? If not, would my Novak adapter to the D300 mate up to the L480E?

on that note as well, is there a reliable chart with specific vehicles and the hp/torque ratings to get the best bang for the buck when looking around for donors?

I know that this will get lots of opinions, but the google info that I keep finding is not all that helpful.

There are basicly 3 different gm tranny to engine bolt patterns.
60 degree- fits 2.8's and the like.
90 degree fits most all chevy small blocks and bigblocks and a lot of other stuff-by far the most common.
Then there are bpoc cases-fit older Buick, pont, olds, cad. mostly th350's, 400's.

Any 90 degree gm trans(what you have now) will bolt up to the newer vortec motors. One of the bolts on the top right side of the bellhousing will not line up-just leave it out. Most of the newer trannys have a removable bellhousing that uses more bolts.

The 4l80e uses 6 bolts to mount t-case-like a th-400

700r4, th-350, 4l60e, and 4l65e all use the same 4 bolt pattern BUT there are differnt lenths of output shafts.

then there are dual pattern cases that fit both, bop and chevy patterns. notably the 200 4r and some th350's
dont forget th400 for old amc engines
