What kind of transmission came in a 4x4 2 door 95 chevy tahoe and what is a good upgrade? I will think about going as far as a manual.

Why do you want to upgrade? You should have the 4l60e and those are decent trannies. You can always build that one and get a different torque converter to suit your driving skillz.

It has never been rebuilt and it has 155000 hard miles one it, guess it was time for it to go out. anyway to make them vacuume operated?

to make them vacuum operated? as in non-electronic?

umm yea, get a 700r4, a 4l60e and 700r4 are the same internals workings, the 4l60e simply has electronic soleniods and sensors to control it

So switiching to a 700 wouldn't really be an upgrade, the same trans basically,

An upgrade would be a 4l80e, or a 400(if you dont want OD)

Or have the 4l60e built with all the aftermarket hard parts and performance upgrades(i'll do it)

I have a 4l60e in my J10 And I got it right from GM as a Factory reman it came with a 3 yr 50k warenty that includes labor the old trans had 169k on it when it blew up.

700r's are turds, notorius for needing rebuilds

:shaking:
A properly built 700 can be very reliable.
Stock, they hate big tires and torque, but built right (very cheap I might add)
they will hold up fine.

Another consideration is that 1st gear is lower than a th350 because you have an OD (hence extra gear) to go.

4l60 is a better trans.
But dont trash a 700. with the right front pump, 2nd gear servo, and a few small mods (these trannys hate heat more than most autos so deep pan and cooler are a must) that will allow you to run merconV , mine has held up to 39s ~450 lb ft torque and one crazy SOB driving for 3+ years now.

I pity the fool who knocks my 700

oh i am sorry from the factory 700's are turds. :shaking:

As are the th350, C-4, C-6, Tf727 for what we do.

The only autos that are decent (but can still be much improved upon with some tweakin) in factory form are the th400 or 4l80E IMHO
