Alright so I a 97 TJ with a bunch of small chips in the front pinion gear. My question is can I replace the front gears without running into problems in the back? I'm replacing them with the same gearset but I wasn't sure if I'd have problems b/c of the rear gears being worn in and the front being new.

you will be fine replacing just one set

It will be fine, but why replace them because of a few chips? I've ran chipped gears for a very long time. Check all your bearings and wear pattern. If it's ok then flush with about 5 cans of brake cleaner and put some good lube in there.

run em like they are. if they fail, then replace. You'll want to replace seals and bearings anyways, and that would be the only collatoral damaged items if the chipped gears fail
