Chrysler offers lifetime powertrain warranty

Chrysler's EXCLUDES all the SRT's, and diesels.

ya.. that fine print at the bottom of the commercials sure does flip quickly. Took me about 3-4 times of seeing th ecommercial to find that it only covers certain vehicles.

the even more fine print also states that warranty is NOT transferable ( to the next owner), and vehicle must be inspected (for free) every 5 years within a 60 day window of the time frame purchased, and all maintinance records much be kept to prove service ( no nessisarilly by dealer).

so, unless you are the type to buy a new ride an keep it forever and SAVE everything , the warranty is pretty much a sales gimick.

Yeah, as is always the case in business, they are doing it to make money. This will work really well for them, as it will increase sales AND decrease warranty claims due to the caveats.

For now all they have is the 3/36 and the diesel 5/100 but they dropped the 7-70.
IT sucks having a rig and at 40k miles the trans goes then its up to you to pay, so with the lifetime warr this will be covered if you say you dont like it so be it but I like it, anytime a company will offer us a deal like this. My wife has kept the last two cars 10 years each, she is at 5 years on the Honda now and we got to talking about replacing that if we could sell it and getting a Dakota or Jeep just something so I don't feel like my but is draging the road all the time in her car. I feal like I need to roll out on the road then stand up and its getting old.
She does not drive my truck so if she needs to drive we take her car.

I think people who care about their vehicle will save receipts of services done to it. I also know alot of people that keep their cars 10 years. If I had the money I would have a loaded Commander, in which case that warranty would be good to have. But yes, it is largely a sales gimmick.

Sales gimmick or not, my Jeep is seven years old and I would love to have had a warranty like this. I have all the maintenance records for my Jeep and will continue to keep them. Even though mine is slightly modified, the Moss-Magnunson warranty act will cover me for the most part;)

MM wont cover this as its a "guarantee" not a "warranty"
just like the 7-70 thing.
Major lawsuit on this in ?Penn? I think a while back.

And it is a nice sales gimmick.
In actuality they are the only of the big three not to have an 08 roll back so in effect this extended warranty isnt free it costs you just dont see it.

It is the same principal insurance works on.
If 1 million people will pay me $100/month I will agree to replace their powertrain for their entire lifetime for every vehicle they own. After all I would make $100,000,000 day one and interest and investment returns would accrue until they start having problems. Its a no brainer for the company really.

Its why all extended warranties are a bad idea, statistically they cost you 97% of the time. And even if you fall in the 3% you wont every time, so over the course of your life you win by never falling for it.

I know this is the idebar, don't want to keep O/T...
but sometimes, people have to choose the warranty b/c of cashflow, even though it isn't the best long term investment. E.g. if you are scraping to just get by and cannot stockpile emergency $$, then it's easier to pay an extra $50 a month than to have to swallow $1500 all at once. Now the argument against this is, just stockpile the $50/mo. The problem is, you are unprotected in the 30 months it takes to accumulate the same $$. I'm just sayin.....

I, too, fall in the "keep a car for its lifetime" club. However I don't buy 'em new, but just a little used, so this would do me no good. I'm sure that as SkyHi pointed out, the profits will far exceed the payouts. Their actuaries would never let it be otherwise.
