Does anyone here know about the Quadra TRac transfer case and the emergency drive function? I know it has a vacume actuator but what does it do? On the CJ I just bought there is no HI-LO shifter and those vacume lines arent connected to anything. I would like to have the HI-LO range selection with out having to convert to a differnt transfer case(and rear end)

Any help is better than none!!!!!

THANKS,

If there is not a shifter on the floor near the drivers seat you do not have a low range in the transfer case.
Quadra trac came as one speed or two.

Call Bill @ 44Magnum in Danville, VA.... as close to a QT expert as you'll find. I kinow he can get the chains, cones, & special goo for them. Possibly he has a lowrange unit that will bolt-on to your TC...

It seems if the vac. lines are gone, maybe it's been converted to part-time? Are there locking hubs on the front?

Since the q-trac is full-time 4wd, it has a differential between the front and rear output shafts. The diff is a cone type posi unit. The e-drive function is like a selectable locker for the case. When you engage the e-drive it locks the front and rear outputs together.
The low-range unit is a bolt-on to your existing case. There will be a round cover on the back of your case. You remove that cover, and (I believe) a drive flange of some sort, and then bolt the low range unit in it's place. Then you'll need to fab (or get) a shifter linkage.
The q-trac is a beefy unit, but it has a couple drawbacks. It needs a special fluid so the diff will function correctly. It's still available, but pricey. Another alternative is to use regular ATF and then add some posi additive. The other thing to look out for is drive chain stretch. If it gets too bad, the chain can skip and bust the case. You can check it by remove the drain plug and checking deflection. I seem to recall 1/2" as being the limit before it needs replacing.
Feel free to call me if you like (contact info at link in sig).
I might be able to find you a low-range unit.
