I just purchased a complete 304 from "Parts for Sale" off this website. Thanks lomodyj!! I have a 1984 CJ7 with the 258 straight 6. I just bought the required motor mounts off of ebay. I intend to upgrade the radiator, as mine is about rotted. The question I have is about the flywheel. I thought I had to change out the flywheel to a specific 304 V8 model. Is this correct? I was looking on ebay and saw an ad for a flywheel advertised for either a 6 cylinder or 304 V8. Are they interchangable? Any help would be appreciated. Plus am I missing any other required pieces in my swap?

Thanks,
Ben

All the research that I have done tells me that the 6 cyl is neutral or internal balanced and all AMC/Jeep V-8's are external balanced and require a specific flywheel for that size engne.
So yes you should get a 304 flywheel.
Some poeple have gotten away without changing though, I don't recommend it.

That's what I have heard as well. But it was worth checking! Thanks for the quick response! I also assume that a 304 and 360 flywheel are different.

I guess I will post on "wanted to buy" to see if anyone out there has one.

If you don't find one at "wanted to buy', try www.quadratec.com orwww.4wd.com and get a new one. You can also get a used one from www.collinsbrosjeep.com.
