I picked up a rough 77 CJ5 a few months ago and decided to jump in with both feet about 3 weeks ago.I had to repair a few holes, many dents, wiring was melted here and there with numerous shorts, spray bomb everything,brakes,carb.,plugs,wires....
Sorry about running on but this is my first fix-up and I'm pretty happy with the result.

The ? is,where do the two holes on the valve cover connect to?The one in front just has a small breather and I ran the one in back to the intake port. Here are some pics of the jeep and the problem area.It idles/revs without a miss but when it's under a load it has what sounds like an exhaust leak. It's a definite miss but has new plugs,wires......Thanks for any help.

The rear hose is for the PCV valve. It usually connects to a port at the base of the carb, if memory serves me correctly. As far as the miss, probably due to the inadequate factory ignition system. Easily converts to GM HEI. Also, carb not the greatest. Convert to MC2100 of TBI injection. Check for vacuum leaks, also. And welcome to the world of CJ-5's.

First off, congrats on a kwel breed. From what I've seen, you have the lines heading off into the correct place. The exhaust leak might be from where the intake manifold, and the exhaust manifold bolts together. The heat from the exhaust warms up the gas/fuel mixture in the intake. So the problem is your gasket going between the two manifolds is probably gone, and/or the bolts are broken/missing. The fix.....is either ignoring the leak, or purchasing a quaility aftermarket intake & exhaust manifold/header.
Have fun with your new toy.

Thanks for the welcome's guys.I added new exhaust from the head to the tailpipe about a month ago so I don't think it would be exhaust leak.I'm going to pull the plugs and take a look at changing the ignition.
Thanks again,
Daniel
