OK... Here is my dilemma. I put a 360 from a Grand Wagoneer that I was told was in great shape in my 85 cj. Of course I am finding out now that wasnt the case. Do you think I would be better off replacing it with another 360 or should I say screw it and go the chevy 350 route?? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.. Kenny:confused:

would it be easier/cheaper to do chevytransmission and transfer case as well?Right now I have the tf727/dana 300. Truck is still kinda torn apart from SOA and axle swap.

Stay 360

yes the 350 is cheaper and easier to find parts , but the adapters and mods for a 350 to jeep tranny will eat you up . I have a 360 in mine and its great . the 350 is an easy conversion but a little pricey unless you have the money laying around

nah...

I have a 360 in my CJ and it is fine. But 350 IS CHEAPER ALL AROUND. Hell you can pick up a new tranny and tcase off this board for less than the sbc to jeep tranny adapter.
350/350/205 FTW....

Look in the sale papers for a whole wagoneer o J truck. They are plentiful. From what I have seen here locally 360 are about as easy to find as a 350. Parts for both are out there and easy to find. The only thing cheaper about a 350 is a rebuild. Rebuilding an AMC is expensive. Kits are about double what a 350 is.
If it were me I would search for a 360, preferably one you can hear run.

I say screw it...

go with the chebbie stuff...

and send me that darn old d300 and 727!

Stay 360. Sure the trans and TC are cheap, but you also have to consider the other items, such as: skid plate, crossmembers, front and rear driveshaft modifications, motor mounts, radiator, etc. etc.

Its much easier to just swap in another 360 and be done with it. Plus, you get to keep it all JEEP!!!!

if you had no drivetrain the 350 would be my vote but you already have everything in place..... rebuilding your 360 would be my suggestion... or buying another junkyard 360 and having it built and swap it in when it's ready so you have less downtime.

give brenden a call... see what his time and price looks like... 515-4762... he's in wilmington but be warned, he'll probably try to talk you into an LS2 :)

Thanks guys. I found an 88 grand wagoneer that sounds great for $250. The motor looks like you could eat off it. Think that might be easier:driver:

Yep, stay amc, I bought a complete waggy for 100.00 with a 360. AMC engines make good low end power, and they arent too expensive to work on that I have found.

Nice score....

Hey Chip,
D'oh....*tucks tail and heads home*
