I just bought a '80 CJ7. Previous Owner said he replaced the fuel sending unit and fuel gauge, but gauge reads full when full and around 3/4 when empty. Where do i start to figure out what is wrong here? Thanks in advance for the help

When you put in a new sending unit u have to calibrate it. You will have to drop the tank to do this. I usually fill the tank a 1/3 , 2/3 and full. I then see where the fuel gauge reads at each setting. If its off then I pull the unit and bend the arm so it reads correctly then reinstall the tank.

On my CJ I had to drop the tank, remove the sending unit, with removed I used a wire with clips to ground sender and attached the power lead. I then turned on the ignition switch and moved the float arm up, then down while watching the guage. I did this with help, of course and held it beside the tank and adjusted according to the float position to tank. Hope this makes sense.

Thanks

That does make sense, after i burn some fuel out of the tank I'll give that a try, thanks for the help
