Clocking an NP205

Trying to get the YJ ready for the GTG and was going to clock and twin stick my np205 (have the figure 8 pattern plate already) . My question is does anyone know if you have to use a cable style shifter or can the factory style be made to work?

In my XJ I bought some shifters and made linkage to the 205 rails and made a mount bracket that bolts to the AW4. Mine is twin sticked. Not sure if that answers your question.
