Hey guys. I drive a 92 Wrangler with the AX-15 transmission. i was driving in 5th gear and downshifted into 4th when i heard a whining noise come from either the clutch or transmission. whenever i shift gears it makes a scratching/scraping noise. i checked the clutch fluid and it was almost completely empty. filled it up with some DOT 3 fluid, and the noise was minimal when i drove it around the neighborhood. i then drove across town and the further i went the more the noise came back. every time i put the clutch in or let it out it makes the scraping noise. previous owner got a new clutch kit installed in 2005. i am going to bleed it tonight and see if that helps. if anybody has any ideas of what might be wrong please let me know. thanks, rush.

Sounds like it needs a clutch. The noise you're hearing could be the rivets scraping the flywheel or could be just the throwout bearing making noise. Either way you got to remove the tranny so you might as well replace the clutch while you're there.

i had the same problem i replaced the slave and it worked fine or it could be what rattlecanpaint was talking about to i had a cherokee that had a bad throwout bearing it was a god awful noise

X2 on the throwout. Or might be time to replace the AX
