Coaxial cable question.

So someone accidentally ripped the or coax cable out of the wall, and tore the metal sleeve out of the cord.

I tried jamming it back in, but had to result to taping it in place, which sucked.

I got bored today, and cut the cord, and superglued the metal sleeve back to the end of the cord.

Question is, there are various small copper wires surrounding the cable...what are these things for? Are they particularly important? They dont seem to do much, so im pretty confused.

thats what my guess was as well.

It had some really thin metal sleeve around a pretty thick plastic core till it got to the actual wire too...

Shielding, make sure the braid is in contact with the sleeve, and make sure you have the center conductor sticking through the right amount.

hows your reception because the copper is for shielding

might want to run down to radio shack and pick up a 10 buck replacement

its not bad, only on the local channels does it really get noticeable.

Theres only 3 weeks of school left, so screw getting another cable .

The shielding also serves to keep the rf in the coax so it doesn't show up places like your neighbor's radio.
