Reaaaallly now. ummm....Andy got some fab work for ya :D
no problemo man.....I would go coils in the front and keep the leafs in the rear.....Either way we can hook you up.

Andy

There is a guy in Norway who did that. Has a good tech write-up on his web page. His name is Frank Almas. You can track him down through IFSJA.org.

There's reasons to go with coils and the resulting link suspension, but really, why do YOU want to? Not saying it's a bad idea or a good one, but what's your reasoning?

Heehhh, Dunno. Just kicking around ideas, The main reason for it was it is going to be mostly street driven, i am planning on 35's. Thru previous experiance, the larger the spring pack gets the worse the ride gets. The truck is a 89, it was a 1 owner rig that she used to haul a horse trailer with.It is loaded( as a waggy can get, ac, power everything, cruise. It also has 270k on the motor, itis being taken out and being redone. My CJ, Scout, and Sami where all trail only rigs.My wife wants to get involved, and she is not ready for a trail rig.my goal is to make it street friendly but capable.
Offroad plans include: 35's MTR's (hell i manage Goodyear, so price is right + street friendly and decent offroad)
it has 44's, and an automatic, so 4:10's or 4:56's
selectable locker rear ( OX maybe)
Winch (appropriate front and rear bumpers)

I was just thinking out loud looking for a compromise on ride quality, but still keeping it capable

This sounds good. But... Could get real expensive real fast. How high does it have to be to run 35"? I am just thinking about it's streetability with a tall lift and large tires. It would be possible, I am sure people do it everyday, but would this be something that your wife would be ok with on a daily basis?

Just do a spring over lift, trim the fenders and you can run 35s. With the spring over you get to keep the soft OEM leafs. Unless they are wore out.

I thought about spring over, like I said in the begining, just kinda kicking around ideas.I don't want to trim the fenders, much anyway.Believe it or not, I want to keep the "wood" as well.

As far as the lift goes, My scout was on 40's, my cj on 37's and the sami on 33's, my wife believes that trucks should have big tires. She will be comfortable with the size.

If you haven't been there, yet, I'd highly recommend checking out www.ifsja.org. That's about the best site you can find, when it comes to FSJs.

There's usually a good tire versus lift chart in their FAQ, but that page isn't coming up for me at the moment. I know you've got to go pretty big to run 35s without cutting. If that's your goal, do a search for Tadsal or Riverbeast, they sell a spring-over kit that might interest you.
