Looking for input on cold cut chop saws. We deal in SS at work for all of our animations and frames. Currently we have two band saws that are pretty nice, but slow.

I was wondering about chop saws and if they would work for us. We do everything from flat stock 1/8” thick to 1/2” thick plate to 1/2” square tube to 5” square tube at 3/8” wall

Thoughts, questions. What are the quality range differences? I’m seeing $200-$800 saws and $30-200 blades. Are there higher quality saws and blades than that?

We use Dewalt chop saws at work. Everything you described, but carbon steel. They work good on stuff up to 1/4" thick or so. Will cut thicker, but it'd not as efficient.

i don't know what bandsaws you have, but i think a good vertical band will be more efficient than a cold cut saw, overall. try looking at a good brand of vertical saw, Hem, Doall, Marvel. good luck. blade pitch is important to understand with bandsaws.
