gonna take a little lift out to lower the COG, and trying to decide how far I can cut in the rear...

is it possible to re-route the filler neck about 90-degrees to where it's below the driver's side brake light like a CJ? (probably gonna move the license plate to the spare tire or somewhere)...

I'm thinking something similar to 03tj's setup...except I want to do LED's in the rear:

it looks like I could fit it where I want based on this pic of his:

maybe even go to a square/rectangular mount like a CJ instead of the big round one I have...

also...does that liner in the rear wheel wells just come out pretty easy? doesn't support anything back there?

Greg

It seems like this could be done fairly easily. Just check to make sure the hose isn't kinked. There is enough room in there to work with, especially once you cut.
As for the liner, just pull it out...nothing is back there.

Post up some pics of your new setup, I'd like to see it.

I've gone back and looked at the pics of yours too many times to count...that's my "encouragement" in this project...

I got the LA skid and the Novak shifter done today...hopefully finish up the arms tonight...

took the flares off and then marked up the fenders with a grease pencil to get a rough idea of what I wanted to cut...

I also think there's plenty of room...but instead of bending the filler neck, I think I'm going to cut it, and then "repair" it with a double-barb fitting and some hose clamps, but rotate it the 90-degrees before I do it...

I've got some of the pics downloaded, but I'll wait and see what I get done tonight before I post them...

the only thing i can warn you about is that on the newer jeeps the geniuses who designed them decided it would be cool to put the canister in the passenger wheel well. just be prepared to reroute all the hoses and wires that go along w/ that. as for me i just removed everything and put the tank in the back seat. but then again my engine systems light just stays on.

And you get it to pass inspection how? Or do you inspect it?

the EVAP cannister?

mine is in the engine bay...

Greg

yea, i currently do not even try to get mine to pass. i am thinking i will just leave it registered in tennessee, all we had to do in cookeville was write a check for 24 dollars and get some new stickers.

I am getting the stuff together to do basically the same as Jimmy but with Rockwells and 42/44's. I am going with a fuel cell made to fit the area of where the seat used to go but shorter.

Inspections: screw that, i will pay the fines if i ever decide to drive on the road.

greg get the pics up man i want to see this bad man . theyer is gist somthing about lossing sheet metal :D it gist does it for me i thank :smokin:

we finished the LA this morning...it's at the shop getting new exhaust routed whenever they have time to fit it in...

I'm in Greensboro all day tomorrow, pick up the TJ Friday, wheel DP on Saturday (hopefully my Bilstein LA shocks arrive on Friday, otherwise wheelin' won't be as entertaining), and leave Sunday afternoon for Nashville til Friday...all that means is probably not gonna get it cut for a week or so...

HOWEVER, the guy that helped me by plasma cutting off the LCA brackets has agree to help me out next Saturday, first a.m. to get the fenders cut...so, assuming I buy lights and that kind of minor stuff this weekend, I should be able to knock it out in a couple hours next Saturday morning and post up all the pics...

I'll get some up tonight when I get the hotel in Greensboro just for some "in progress" pics...

Greg

probably gonna have to push the trim back a week..."mama" laid down the law that next Saturday was me and her, and hacking up fenders is NOT her idea of a good time...

so I'll toss out a few random pics...

BEFORE:

IMG_5104.sized.jpg

flares removed...and you can kinda see my outline on the rear of where I might cut:

IMG_5109.sized.jpg

long arm skid installed...still with short arms on it:

IMG_5119.sized.jpg

front arms in:

IMG_5124.sized.jpg

rear lowers in:

IMG_5125.sized.jpg

uppers didn't go in til this morning due to exhaust routing...

and I don't have a finished pic of the Novak shifter, either...but I'll get those soon...

also hacked on the rear tube bumper...the before:

the after:

IMG_5126.sized.jpg

who knows...if she leaves the house Friday, I may "rough out" the fenders just for the heck of it...if I can pick up the lights and fittings I need...

gallery for ongoing project is here:

still undecided on springs...my three main choices are:

1. stay with the RE 3.5" and just remove the 1.75" spacers
2. upgrade to RE 4.5"
3. upgrade to BDS 4.5"

anybody have any RE vs. BDS input?

what are u goin to do about the front? flat or tube fenders?

"almost" flatfender...but no tube...

it's marked in one of those pics, but you just can't see it...

it'll be flat along the side, but I'm gonna leave the turn signal in the front, cause I have too much stuff on the bumper for the CJ-style turn signals...I may come up with another plan later, but I saw a TJ at the Myrtle Beach show that had them that way and I really like them. I'm trying to find somebody that took a pic of it so I can jog my memory...

I'll still cut the front, but it'll be on that little ridge below the light, which means I'll remove about 2" or so...

Greg, there is a really good pic of that jeep in the nckrawlers album for the show.

thanks...just checked it out...

he didn't cut the anything off the front where the turn signal is...just the entire side out...

I'll make that decision when the cut-off wheel is in my hand...
