thats how i drove my jeep down the highway from chapel hill to wilmington....big tires in the back for good top speed little ones up front for good steering and much less chance of bump steer and/or death wobble friggen awesome!

By monster do you mean tall or the size of the hose coming out of the air filter? I am assuming you mean tall since you are referencing an ocean. I though that above the hood was the whole idea of a snorkel. I am actually taking it off as soon as i get a new hood I have never been in a water crossing that required it since it's installation 4 years ago.
