Ok I am an expert on very few things, very knowledgeable in many and know enough to be dangerous on most anything...

But computer's aggravate me, while I could probably research read and eventually figure something out, I am just being lazy here.

So I have a challenge for anyone with top of the head knowledge to help me with a problem.

All my work data is saved on a network drive (M drive designated) I use a laptop but often need to access this info but do not have network access. (I do have remote access but sometimes connectivity just isnt there, remote areas for example)
Adding to the dilemna we buy the cheapest laptops possible and I have experienced 2 hard drive crashes in ~6 months. So I do not feel comfortable storing info ONLy on the HD.

Is there a way to create replicates of 2 directories?
I.E. What I would like to do is eveything I store (have roughly 4gigs of info) have saved in 2 places and have it somehow update and keep the most recent version. So if I changed some data when offline next time I hooked to the neetwork it would update.

My current solution is to copy the contents of my network drive to my HD and overwrite every AM, and vice versa at the end of teh day. Problem is when I get in a hurry and get inconsistent then when I overwrite I lose data.

#1) Sorry this is so long winded. Does what I wanna do make sense?

#2) Is it even possible?

Ill gladly buy the person who can help me accomplish this a 6 pack of their favorite beverage, or some other similar time compensation.

I think you can use the breifcase feature and. I think you need to manualy up date it but it will keep the directory the same

look up "Offline folders" - that should help.

... unless (to add to Joel's comments on a GPO) some administrative type has killed that ability from the individual share itself... as opposed to a global deny from a GPO.

Also, you didn't mention what OS... hopefully your not retreading Win95 on the cheapy laptops!

nah we got XP....no 95...

But our IT sucks
they are 2 gusy in their 60s that justify their jobs by locking everything down so you have to ask for access to add a printer....Neither one of them know shit about todays computers. The "Dept. Head" told me the last language he bothered to learn was fortran because programming language has nothing to do with computer admin....

Ok I will try the previous suggestions and report onm the findings....Thansk guys
