Consequences using 33s and 3.07 gears?

Other than dogging it on the highway, are there any problems that come up when using 33s with 3.07 gears on a wrangler tj? Would the clutch be prone to wear?

Also, what price can I expect for getting the new carrier and gearing + installation for 4.56s?

Thanks!

My old YJ with a 4.0 and 5 spd ran 3.07s for a long time w/33s. No problems at all but I didn't take long road trips and I didn't rock crawl with it. Sometimes I would have to use low range when wheeling just to get up on top of the sand or something silly like that but once I got going in high range it wasn't a problem. I got the jeep used and drove it not so easy for 3 years before I put a clutch in and only put it in b/c it was getting close to it at the time I rebuilt the tranny.

1st gear in a Wrangler is fairly low. I wouldn't worry about my clutch taking off. As long as you're not towing I wouldn't worry about the 3.07 gears. Things I hated...... 5th gear was useless, had to be doing 80+ to pull 5th gear. On the highway I ran in 4th and it was a little sluggish uphill.

I put 411s in mine and its a little on the low side with 33's. But, I love being able to ride trails in 2wd without having to work the clutch so much. I have 5th gear again!!!!!! Not much difference in Fuel Mileage in the gear swap. (Less than 1 mpg)

Parts ...
2 carriers
2 R + P sets...
2 overhaul Kits....
$600 ish....

Labor, I've heard anywhere from 300 - 600..

If you're only going to change because your're worried about your clutch I wouldn't worry about it, but do doubt it does help.

I'm running my YJ with that setup and it's a little sluggish 4-5 gear but can go highway speeds. You can't use 5th uphills at all though. Mine's a 4cyl but I've heard the YJ have a little more torque than the TJ? not sure about all that but I haven't had any problems.

I'm running that same set up.
I kissed 5th goodbye the day I put the 32 TSL's on.

I'll get to the gears one of these days when I feel like going without
food for the month

Tires and wheels you use will matter somewhat due to the weight difference of 1 tire and rim to another. I totally forgot about the 4.0 TJ at work when I posted last night with the 33's and 3.07s we use to run shop errands and service calls in sometimes. Its got winston winner lt's with the black steel wheels. It runs town fine and 5th can be used but if you need to accelerate from 5th you had better downshift. My old YJ felt a little better since I had bridgestone dueler at's on it with different rims which were lighter. I have 4.10s in my TJ and it feels like it needs more tire than a 33. I can take off in 2nd gear like it's nothing. Our shop TJ has 73,xxx on it w/ the original clutch and my YJ had 120,xxx when the clutch was replaced in it on the stocker.

I run 3.07's on my YJ up against 36" SX's. It helps that I have a TPI V8 and a 6.5:1 first gear. Sucker hums along at highway speed like a diesel. It's getting regeared to 4.27's or 4.56's soon, though. It's not a whole lot of fun off-road on rocks.

wow

wow im runing 34 tsl's on my Xj with stock gears and it has no problems at all it just goes on like it did running stock tires and come to think of it i can even break those super swampers loose.
