Hey,

next friday will be 6months for my girlfriend and i, so i want to do something a little special. not that, applebees and a movie isn't romantic and all, lol.

so can u guys recommend any cool places to eat around raleigh? something with some atmosphere, etc. preferably not tooo expensive cause i am in college and i have a CJ to feed, lol. but something fun, maybe something we could dress up for a bit. maybe somewhere we might get a chance to dance together? that would probably go over well, lol.

any thoughts on something unique to do? i saw where the art museum is have a special exhibit for glass art. that sounds kinda neat. anyone been to that?? how big is the art museum? or better yet, how much time does it take to go through it?

thanks guys, i owe ya one!

cheers,
bigmac

take her downtown....near rum runners there is an excellent little italian place, nice and small, nothing too fancy, but great service and a wonderful menu

about 200ft away from there is a jazz club, ive only been once and cant remember the name, but it too was a great place

sorry bout not rememberin the names or whatnot...good luck and have fun

Well how about you take her to the Raleigh Little theater and walk around the Rose Garden (PLEASE do not pick those Roses) and chat for a while and theh go out to dinner... Maybe 513 Glenwood Ave.. not to expensive but nice...then walk down glenwood and site see...

There is a lot of culture in raleigh if you look around..

PS: if you do nto know where Raleigh Little theater is the Google it.

I always like the Raleighwood Cinema Grill

Address: Falls Village Shopping Center, Raleigh, NC 27614 (919)8470326

Basically eat dinner while you watch a movie, food isnt super great, but its always a fun time. They server alcohol too...

Other favorites, Hard Times Cafe on Gleenwood (almost to downtown)

Excelent NY style thin crust pizza, Pipers Tavern, Falls of Neuse, just inside (south)from 540 opposite side of big azz golf driving range.

Winstons on Wake Forest Rd. Near ummm.... dono look it up... Very nice/cozy place, excelent sunday brunch menu...

Durham, James Joice Irish Pub, brightleaf square area, not a big menu but super atmosphere...

good luck.. -mike

what's wrong with a nice dinner at Char-Grill?

:)

Greg

He's still dating... Daters need 'romantic atmosphere'. Wait til he's been married 5 years. THEN Char-Grill will be nice. Actually, I think my wife's fav. place is Chick-Fil-A... :D

Oh, yeah, Winstons is good. Also Cappers (if it's still there) in the shopping center on Six Forks near the beltline where they're remodeling the mall has good food and live music. It's about $50 each IIRC...

Stonewood Grill in Cary is a nice place to eat with great food and excellent service. Good desserts too. Just a dinner place though.

Hard Times? I thought he was supposed to be wining and dining her. Cyd and I can get out of there for like $12. Bowl of Terlingua and a Coke, please. ;)

Um... others that haven't been mentioned.... Nana's Chophouse on West Davie, Five Star on W. Hargett, Sushi Blues on Glenwood, Porter's on Hillsborough, Frasier's (next to Porter's, more upscale).

None of the above have dinner and dancing that I'm aware of (Five Star does turn into a club/lounge after hours), but they're all good.

Wanna bowl her over? Cook for her (if you don't normally). Have it ready when she comes over, maybe a candle or 3 on the table, and some flowers / a card.

there's Maggiano's Italian Restuarant in Southpoint Mall. best Italian food I've found around here. little pricey but not bad.
who's up for putt putt?

july4th was my g/f and I's 3year anniversary. we'll be celebrating it not this weekend (5bolt main concert tonight and get zuk ready for next w/k) and next weekend is Devil's Playground so we'll do it the w/k after LOL!

Oh, and Second Empire is supposed to be good. It looks to be a bit cheaper than, say, Nana's Chophouse.... more a $15-20 entree vs. $20-25. I've never personally eaten there, tho. It's in the big house on Hillsborough, right at the corner of Harrington (east of Glenwood Ave)

sullivan's is my spot. april and george after.

I took my wife to the Melting Pot in Charlotte last year for our 13th anniversary.

It's little pricey, but very good food and very nice atmosphere. It's fondue, so it's kind of an evening's event. They have a package where to do an appetizer of cheese fondue, then you do your main course, then there's chocolate fondue for dessert. You have plenty of time to sit and visit while you cook and eat.

My wife still talks about how much she enjoyed it.

It looks like they have one in Raliegh:

(PS, don't worry about what the other guys say about romancing her. I still romance my wife and we're going on 14 years married. It makes us both happy and it's the least I can do for all she does for me.)

I like the Peddler in Oakpark Shopping Center for steak. You can get as big a steak as you want since they cut it right at your table.

You have to take a loan out to eat at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in Cary but everybody should do that once in their lives.

I wouldn't eat for free at the Angus Barn. Way too over rated IMHO. Good for business men and politicians on expense accounts.

I'll second the melting pot, though it is pricey, it's a great place the the women love it.

518 West is loud, but the food, atmosphere, and history are great. Second Empire is as expensive as Angus Barn, but it is better. Sullivans was great. Top of the Hill in Chapel Hill is great. Bojangles is my fave, but the wife keeps acting out when I suggest it for a fancy dinner.

I can give other serious ideas, but I wonder where you're planning on eating (downtown raleigh, north raleigh, will you go to durham or chapel hill).

dont know how dressed up you wanna get or not get but i went to bahama breeze down off of wake forest for the first time a couple of nights ago and thought it was really good, outside on the porch is pretty casual as its first come first seat type of seating, while the inside is a little more fancy.

Casa Linga, Mini City shopping center on Capital Blvd. in Ral.

Little family run Italian joint, small place, good food.

My wife loves it...I just have a hard time paying that much money and still having to cook my own food!!

I second the "cook for her" suggestion...

Greg

Hey,

will prob eat in North raleigh or downtown, either is fine. i would cook for her, but i've already done that, plus i'm not the greatest cook, lol. not sure she'll be overly impressed with hamburger helper! haha

actually i do know where the raleigh little theatre is. i park by it almost every day. i actually noticed the other day all the roses. i'll have to walk over there next week and check that out.

thanks for all the suggestions guys. looks like i've got some choices. i'll probably be picking in the lower price range tho. i've got an $800 tuition bill to pay for my summer classes, plus insurance on the CJ. plus, i can't go all out on the 6month anniversary. what will i do for the 1 yr??!! haha

thanks again,
bigmac
