Have an opportunity to hunt coyotes on about 6ooo acres. Guy says they are as thick as squirrels!!

What do I need to know?
Tactics
Calls
Weapons

I know a guy in VA that had a dead one in the back of his truck the other day. He says they pay $50.00 per head and there is no limit on how many you turn in. From what he said they are very smart and are tough to even see.

If you can trap them I have seen big$ for live yotes for coon doggers

Injured rabbit call. Stay still, Shoot fast.

I agree, the injured rabbit call is one of the best. They are going to be very hard to see, and they are extremely smart, so yes shoot fast. What type of rifle are plannign on using?

Not ideal but have a M77 RUGER in 308-3x9 varix3 and my AR15.

Have found a flat top upper with optics for the AR that a friend wants to get rid of???

If you find a way to trick them, it will only work once. These animals are smarter than you when it comes to survival and not being seen.

I think the 308 will be fine. Most shots will be probably be long, so some people go with 223s or something similar for their speed and distance.

If possible try to set up in a treestand. Also try to have a dead rabbit also. I have had good luck with a call and a dead rabbit if you can get up a tree or in a box stand.

Really excited about hunting something with teeth!!!

Is in NC. This and surrounding land owners have a real problem with cattle and rabbits( they hunt rabbits) and want them gone. They cant find enough locals to hunt them??

Most people around here carry a rifle (.223,.243,.22 mag, etc.) and a shotgun. A lot of times they will come in close and do it too fast to get a shot with a scoped gun. Also remember that a coyote can pinpoint a sound within 10 feet of it's origin from approximately 3/4 of a mile away so don't place your decoy too far away or they will know something is up before they get close to you.

Coyote hunting is about the most fun you can have hunting a ground animal. Especially if you have large open areas. Good luck. And, it's kind of cheating but electronic calls are allowed here for coyote hunting as well as no closed season or bag limit...

What do you use as a decoy?

Are electronic call legal in NC? What about night hunting?

As far as decoy, thats where the dead carcas comes in. i like the remote electronic calls and a dead animal.
Beware of night hunting, Its hard to explain that you are hunting coyotes to the game warden while holding a rifle and the coyotes cant be spotlighted...good luck

$100 to $125 or more EACH. Live trapping. Fur is 10-25 sometimes more if you get a thick nice one.

I would use a 223 or 22-250 and maybe think about a FMJ bullet if you want to sell them.
don't think you can use a call box but I would need to check on it. Make sure you check the laws for hunting in your area, it you need to be in a stand to shoot rifle in deer season then you need to do the same for that. If I remember in wake county you must be 8' above the ground for hunting with a center fire rifle. There is rules on what size of gun in some places. Also if you are on the ground then you need to make sure of you target and what is behind it. Its not like deer hunting they will pop up infront or behind you and you don't want to lanch a round at a road or house. Plus lots of people oout scouting and walking the woods. Make sure its a yote before you shoot.

Want any help huntin some yotes? That AR15 should be fun. Just spray them suckers!

18" of burlap soaked in cows blood hanging ona barb wire fence is far more effective than hunting if you want to get rid of them.

They cant shit it out and get caught in the stomach/intestines. cruel but effective if you want to save your fawns and turkey eggs.

Shooting them is fun but i spend too much $$$ on leases to get killed by the coyotes that the NC Wildlife released.

Got a dumb question...but you guys said there is money available for turning in pelts and/or live animals. Who and where do you go to sell them?

You are my hero, never thought of that...

Did they really do that?

You will not find a current Wildlife employee that will admit to it. But I have heard it from too many that arent current for it not to have some truth. 5-7 years ago there werent any around and all the sudden they are everywhere.

Kinda like the turkeys that they stocked huh?
