full floating dana 60 rear axle. yukon 35 spline chromo shafts. full detroit locker. brand new yukon 5.38 gears. yukon install kit with timken bearings. brand new spicer yoke.

i was putting my rear driveshaft back in after replacing my clutch and i didn't have my yokes lined up to connect my u joints...

well i put the tcase in neutral to spin the yoke on there and accidentally twisted the driveshaft somehow... don't really remember what enticed me to do it, but i did.....

well it spun....

i can spin the yoke on my rear end about 30 degrees (guesstimate) before it stops.....

WTF

i just had the rear end built a month ago....

i've been very easy on it in my opinion... i haven't tried to pop any wheelies, haven't crawled over any rocks... i've just driven it around town, on the highway, and on some muddy trails..... i pulled one guy out of the mud a couple weeks ago but he wasn't really that stuck and i basically just idled him out.... my point, i haven't been beating on it.

I changed my diff fluid once already (i'm using lucas oil).....

when it was fresh and just dine it was all to spec.... the pinion turned a hair before it stopped.... nothing like this...

wtf

please someone help me with some suggestions. i can't afford to buy another set of new gears, let alone ANOTHER detroit locker and install it.....

what shoudl i do?

i think i'm about to buy a 4 door f150 "thing" for CHEEEAAAAAP.... it's a 2003 or 4 i think.... we'll see

but that doesn't solve my problem with my "new" rear axle.

i'm kinda upset right now actually... i think i'll go to sleep.

class at 9am.... hope the jeep makes it.

full detroit locker.

That is normal for that locker. I installed a Detroit in my 9" rearend about 4 yrs ago and had the same experience and thought something was wrong.

X2 here

this was while the axle was on the ground.

so this is normal?

i guess the locker has "broken in" and this is just how it is gonna be?

Seems like the Detriot install instructions mentions a 1/4" turn of the pinion is normal, that would be 90 degrees of rotation. I know mine turns a lot, I wouldn't worry at this point.

common with the Detroit like these guys are telling ya I experienced the same with the d44's in my willy

I have a detroit and this is a common thing with them. I agree with everyone else. You should be able to find it in the detroit book I think, if you still have it.

No one else has said it - it's the locker.. :p

Even my lock-rights had a ton of slop.

you guys rock!

haha, i knew it was setup right from the marking compound and all but i was SO confused it wasn't even funny....

all i could think was... how in the world is this happening.... if it was the pinion / ring gear contact it would have meant that 1/4 of my pinion teeth were missing or something and then it wouldn't be driving....

dunno where my book is... downloading a copy now...

thanks again guys!

-Erik <--- shaved his head in frustration... can i glue my hair back on?

Definatly the gears and shafts. I heard chromos have that side effect. Send me the parts and I'll make you some new shit with some colded rolled and a grinder...

what's your shipping address? i'll get them out today! lol

another one here, its the locker. it likes to rock, spin, clank, scream, move, and raise hell. lol

oh well, i guess thats just the price we pay to be able to throw two rooster tails in the mud instead of just one :)

Something else that is fun is taking corners in town in the snow with a detroit. Half the turn feels fine, then give it a little gas and you get your signature bang followed by a drift that would scare any ricer.

I had a buddy just do that with some type of locker and rolled/totalled his near mint F-350 4x4. I'm sure the 10 hours of drinking had nothing to do with it either.

probably not. i'd sue detroit if i was him...

-Erik <--- doesn't have the snow or the wheelbase to try a stunt like that.... sober
