Crozet, VA....... Wow!

That place was awesome! It was more than just the rocks- the people, the atmosphere, the layout, everything about that place was great! The weather SUCKED (for camping), it rained, misted, fogged, misted some more, drizzled, and every other condensation/moisture word I can think of :shaking:.

11 hour round trip from Charlotte- totally worth it .

We got there on Friday and we were so cold that night, it was laughable. I had to make decisions like: should I just lay here half way frozen in my sleeping bag and be miserable, or get up and go to the bathroom in the middle of the pasture we were camping in? Will the cows charge me for peeing by them? Black cows in the pitch black night... I couldn't see anything!

Speaking of pastures and cows... our tents were surrounded by cows in the middle of the night like they were raiding our base. I could here them walking around, planning, marking their territory (6' from my tent), and who knows what else with all of the mooing and grunting.

Combine all of that with the most gracious land owners I have come across- IE letting us use their shop until 10:00pm Saturday night, force feeding us drinks and shots until 1:00am, then coming down from their house and partying with us at our tents over the grill and burgers until 2:00am -and you have a recipe for about 8 hours of sleep since Friday. I literally spent more time in the TJ on the rocks than I did in my sleeping bag this weekend.

Anyway, too many stories to write up, but definitely a memorable weekend of wheeling!

On to the pics!

Starting the trip off right:

New York Strip and Jack Daniels- cooking steak in a pasture surrounded by cows.... irony?

Get that thing to idle finally?

I was the white xj on 36 swampers

Yep, I shorted something messing with my battery which kept the fuel from going to the engine at idle. No time to fix before the group headed out in the morning so I two footed the throttle and brake through the trails. When we came back for lunch we just reset the ECU. Problem solved! Perfect after that.

redlyner, question?

what is your opinion on the type of terrain?

I wheel with a xj locked front on 34s around 4 inches of lift.

is it extreme with no bypasses or are there bypasses?

The park has 4 different types of trails- blue (easy to moderate), black and upper black (require lockers and 35"+ tires) and red (require black trail specs + 6 point cage to frame tie ins and a helmet).

We did black and upper black all day. A 5.9 ZJ on 35"s open/open squeezed in our group and it was very obvious as to why they require lockers for those trails.

All of the trails are right by the shop/camp area, so it's easy to get back if you break. 4 door rubi jk's on 35"s were running the blues and still having fun. I saw an lj rubi on 37s flexing out on the blues along with xj's on 33"s. So I think there would be plenty to challenge you.

Crozet is my local stomping grounds. If there is an obstacle you dont want to do their is in almost every instance a by pass

It is a great place to wheel definitely worth a trip up

I really am looking forward to checking this place out this summer. I will only have about 3" of lift and 32s though most likely on my TJ. We own a place in Wintergreen and got married down in Afton, I love the area.

Hadfield has told me great things about this place. Looking forward to checking it out one day.

shoot me a msg when you guys plan to come down, we can hit some trails there

I was wheeling with an xj on 32s he did ok 33s-35s are a lot of fun there, 31s are doable but expect to get body damage and scrap and drag

When its wet here at crozet its slick as snot

It's about 4 to 4.5 hours, not to bad of a drive, and totally worth it.

I had a blast. I was the guy in the tan XJ on 33's, I had to call the weekend short after breaking a motor mount, but had a great time wheelin with you guys.

Did you get any pics of me?

Thanks for posting the pics Jay. You couldn't have expained it any better. I absolutely LOVED this place. I totally forgot about how cold Fri night was after some awesome wheelin on Sat, could be a result of all the mind erasing shots we had Sat night:shaking:
My carnage list: destroyed front upper control arms
front drive shaft jacked up
transfer case skid plate...bye bye:flipoff2:
Mad props to the most awesome hosts in the world, I mean, let me use your shop, your tools, your spare parts, feed us, get us drunk, and then say thanks for coming. Bless you Chris and Heather.

Dude there you are....I can see your XJ just beyond the pipewrench action going on under my Jeep.
Was nice meeting and wheeling with you.
Boy do I have some welding projects that could use your expertise.
