The good! It's fully painted and 80% wired, enough to get me on the trail, but I do want to finish the rock lights. Need to bleed the brakes again, and install the harnesses.

But, upon teardown to fix what looked like just another leaky inner axle seal, found the bad.. That's the lower trunion (kingpin) bearing, or what's left of it. My only hint was that the tire had noticable camber... it drove fine, around the 'hood. (Yes I'm tagged and insured now :flipoff2:)

The ugly - When the bearing let go, it punched against the seal on the back of the knuckle, bending the bolts that hold the seal on  Not big bolts, but wild that it bent them.

Anyone got a lower trunion cap for a minitruck/FJ60 near Durham/Apex? :D

Looks good. So how much weight did it lose?

It's mostly togther... If ya look closely, you can see that the left front is sitting on blocks... When I get back from VA, I have to re-assemble the knuckle with the new bearings and cap, set the timing, mount the fire extinguishers, and bolt down the switch panel on the center console.. THEN load it up, and drive to Dayton.. Friday will suck....

good luck with it, those last minute things suck don't they.

looks real good, now if you just had a huge American flag (monster truck style) sticking out the back... :D

Looks good. Cant wait to hit the trail with you sometime.

Its always the little things that take time to work out. Im sure more will arise when you get it on the trail....but thats all part of a build up. Iron the wrinkles out as they unfold.

Looks good Rich! I look forward to seeing the pictures and hearing the tales that come back from the trip.

Rich,

everything came out good, I especially like the paint. Have fun at Dayton, hope the weather turns out ok for you guys.

That's a nice looking rig. That's a bummer that you've got all that done and somthings holding you up. I'm sure thats not going to stop you though.

You forgot to paint that OD tool box blue... :D

i suddenly feel compelled to sing the star spangled banner. Looks good dude.

Dude, Rich, I drove right passed ya on 40 today on my way back to State, that thing looks waay more bad ass in person, I was in the gold buick if you remeber i nodded at ya when I passed :D

Oh yeah.. I saw ya, and then you kinda drifted towards the front of the CTD...

Long story short... everything works, and works VERY VERY well..

I love the 'pane...
Auto's are the ONLY way to go.
Light truly is right.
15 minutes on a creeper in the garage with a wrench can save hours on the trail in the dirt with oil on your face.
Good shocks are worth every penny.
Did I mention auto trannies are awesome? :D

Rich's rig looks great and works even better! I was very impressed with it over the weekend. Good job Rich.

Greg - you're absolutely right, why didn't I do it sooner? I'll just call that my "time in the trenches" with the manual and a carb, with full-body weight... Helps me to, um, appreciate it all now...yeah, that's the ticket...
