ok, the cruise doesn't work on my 89 f150, it's a 4 speed. all the fuses look good. any ideas?

Do you have a lift?

nope, it's all stock, except for the 31" x 10.50's on it!

Is the speedometer accurate? Mine was off by about 5mph which caused my cruise control to be jumpy. I changed the speedo gear to a 29 tooth to accomodate the 35" tires. It resolved the problem. Does it not turn on all together? Or will it show that cruise is on the dash but then when you set it nothing happens?

don't come on at all. speedometer seems right.

vss?

Vehicle speed sensor. There's a recall on the cruise systems on the late models. you might check to see if you fall under it. Something about it catching on fire and burning the truck to the ground.

The cruise deactivation switch on the side of the master cyl. is notorious for developing internal leaks in to the connector. Thus shorting out the electrical connector with brake fluid and causing all grades of electrical problems which noramlly equals fire.

Yep, millions of dollars of R&D. Why, because at Ford quality is #1. It's a built in marketing device, if your truck burns to the ground, you have to buy another one.

well that's nice to know!

Check with your local dealer to see if it's on the recall list, if so it's a free fix. Has the cruise worked since you've owned it or was it malfunctioning when you got it? If it's always been that way, look and see if there is an unplugged switch on the side of your master cylinder. That's how we figured out that my brothers F-250 hadn' had the recall done. Plugged it in and filled the shop with smoke.

most cruises are vacuum controlled. make sure you have a good vacuum source on the hose going to the cruise actuator
