Went wheeling today at the Devils Playground, very cool place, nice obsticles!! My little XJ fared pretty well. Stayed off the Hornets Nest and watched some insane action there!!

Anyway the XJ felt different on the way home and I got underneath to take a look and found the LCA mount on the unibody is pushed back into the unibody. Any suggestions how to bend this back/ repair the damage? (of course it would happen on the nasty oily side!!)

Passenger side, what it should look like.

Thanks for any suggestions!!

cut it out and weld in a new section. or there is always longarms...:darkside:

Longarms are an option and would help flex but $$. You will probably have to cut the wrinkled parts out and plate in new steel. Make sure to use enough overlap to give it strength.

That pic makes me rethink my control arm drop bracket purchase in the future. It would def. catch and I am not sure if the companion support brackets would help any?? :(

anchor the mount to something on the ground somehow and then jack it up? plate it to prevent future failure...

ghetto fab
unbolt and take the existing arm out and do as mentioned anchor the mount to something solid and then jack it up until it's close to its orginal location as possible. this could possibly bend your unibody worse than it is. depending on where you place your jacks.

that mount looks as if it needs to come forward and down to get back to stock location.

go to the junk yards and find one wrecked enough that they wouldn't mind you torching out the whole section and then just cut yours out and replace it.

or just take it to a good quality frame shop and have them bend it back out.
the latter would be my suggestion then plate it and reinforce it.
I would at least call them and find out what they would charge you

do you know any body shop guys who have a hand held porta power hydraulic unit? or a frame machine would be even better.

I would also inspect those arm bushings for damage as well.

how much does a long arm kit cost? might be just as cheap to go that route. if you have to pay someone to do the frame work for you.

making a new mount would definatley be simpler than going to longarms simply because of that. also KOR makes a little LCA/bracket skid out of some light duty c-channel that probably couldn't have hurt in that situation. but I'm sure you could fab something up just as easily as buying it.

Well, I would have it straightened by a frame shop.....that should guarrantee your handling would be back to normal. Then go home and plate the heck out of it and the other side as well to keep it from hapnin' again. This side will now be a weak link unless strengthened.

I say go back and do the same thing to the other side, then plate them, and enjoy the added ground clearance! :D

I don't know if that would be all that great for his castor?? :D

Just invest in a few cans of degreaser. You wouldn't want to catch the jeep on fire with all of that crud on it. ;)
