can someone tell me the advantages and dissadvantages to cutting leaf springs in half and using one side?looks cool but i dont know if it would be good on my datson pick build.thanks for the insite

well im not sure wich i should do becouse never done and only seen a few times.will i gain enough travel were it would be worth it and can the front be done as well?i also wanted to be able to drive it on the road, does it ride like crap or desent?thanks

They both provide a pretty incredible amount of flex, but they do have their drawbacks. Not 100% what the drawbacks are anymore as I wrote them off a while ago and forgot everything, but I remember them being a no no in the front. I'm sure someone will chime in here and explain my ramble a bit better.

Granted I have never built one but from my experience they do gives tons of flex but...they can be tricky to setup right, seem like they would have axlewrap issues and is more or a oldschool setup to get lots of flex with leaves. In a 3/4 setup the upper leaves is what gives you the extra flex by bending down where as with a shackle, the only down travel is from the lower leaves and little amount the shackle gives you. With a 1/4 setup the half of the leaf pack acts as your spring. This means you still have to do a 4 or 3 link to locate the axle. Its easier, and far better to do a 4 or 3 link with airshocks or coils in my opinion.
