Cutting 3" body lift in half

I bought a dd that had a 3" body lift on it. I'm adding a 2.5" OME so I want to get rid of the 3" body lift. I'd like to cut it in half to make a 1.5" lift in preperation for a MM lift. Has anyone tried this? What did you use to cut the pucks in half? Think I can re-use the bolts? Anybody want to trade a 1" for a 3"?

use a chopsaw and be quick with your cuts. the hardware should be fine I'd think.

why not ditch it altogether?

I just finished up installing Poison spyder customs rock sliders on my TJ. These sliders mount to two of the three main body mounts and the instructions call for trimming them by 3/16". After trying several things, I dug up my pvc pipe cutter and went right through them. My pipe cutter is for a 1" pipe, but if you bought one for a 2.5" pipe (or whatever is available 3" maybe?) it would work perfect. You'll have to trim down the metal sleeves as well, but your handy hacksaw should make short work of that.

I'm flat bellied with no body lift in my 84 toy. Why did you have to raise the motor?

don't be offended.... I'm just being nosy now- I wish you the best.

When you put a flat skid on a jeep you have to raise the driveline up. When you do that you get into the tub domain so it has to go up too.

if the bolts are too long (and they probably will be), one thing you could try is to make sure you have two or three nuts on there first, then cut off the 1.5" on the end.

Then, by backing off the nuts, they should "cut" the correct starting place on the bolt for you.

But for $96ish or something you can buy a new one with bolts from Summit Racing I bet...? I realize that is not the cheapest route but might be easier/safer than cutting 1.5" from your fingers on the chopsaw x 16 cuts? (8 pucks, 8 bolts is my guess)

So you don't have to do something this awesome:

Hehe.
But yea, they answered it already, that just makes me weak.

But as for 11 bolts, isn't it just 9? 1 in front, 3 on each side, and 2 in back?
Or which 2 did I forget?

I see no problems whatsoever cutting the pucks in half. I don't know much about Jeeps, but is 1.5" enough to raise the drivetrain afterwards?

If you plan on cutting the bolts afterwards, I'd recommend tapping them for possible removal/installation later on. But since we're only talking roughly 1.5" I don't see the need to cut the bolts either.

FWIW, depending on your weapon of choice for cutting, take the width of the blade or whatever you use into account when measuring.

As long as you cut them straight/clean enough- you can always give the other pieces to a friend for another body lift :driver:

Whatever you do- be careful!

Oh yea- and don't forget that at 3" there's most likely other modifications besides the pucks themselves like a radiator drop, etc. So keep an
eye out for stuff like that when lowering the body down.
