I have a 77 ford Bronco and we have just put a new 302 in it and now I am having some problems. When I drive it down the road it does fine for up to 10-15 miles and then it just cuts off and won't start back up. When I do try and start it back up it acts like the battery is dead but it can't just die that fast can it cause it started up just fine. I have no idea what it is any advice would be great. Also when I stop driving it water comes out of the overflow so I have to put more back into the radiator. I changed the oil a couple of days ago and there wasn't any water in it. I am having the radiator pressure checked this week. If any one can help me please do cause I NEED IT!

Sounds like it's over heating. A gasket may have been put on wrong not allowing water to flow thru the engine. I have seen that before on heads. A lot of things can cause what you are experiencing, so without more info, it's hard to say.

ok thanks i'll try and see what else I can figure out

I think your problem is 2 problems. There isn't anything that would cause both symptoms that I can think of about it cutting out? A starter going bad acts like a dieing battery. I'd pull and check the starter. They will drag next to a hot motor and turn over fine when cool.
For just cutting out could be a few things. Crud in the gas tank does this. Crud comes up to the pickup when you are going and shuts down the motor due to lack of gas, and when crud settles it will start back up. Simply put an inline CLEAR filter and keep eye on it to diagnose this one.
Another thing that makes a 77 ford act up is the electron trigger in the distributor. Everyone I ever had had to be replaced after 20 years or so. $8 fix to one starting and stalling by it's own irregular mind. Just check spark when it happens and that will tell you for this one.
Or it could be something else? But it's either fuel or spark related. Figure out which one and narrow down from there?

Over heating could cause it cut off, starter not be able to spin the engine and water from the overflow.

If it's due to overheating, and you've had this happen multiple times...you're engine is most likely done. Do you have a working temp gauge?

yea I have a water temp gauge and it does work. The engine is brand new one so I don't think that it can already be done.

Timing sounds high.
When timing is high it makes it hard to start, and causes it to run hot.

Try turning timing back a bit.

The water temp stays around 190 to 200.

timing too high.
Not sure why its cutting off but high timing qwould make it hard to crank and make it overheat.

It would be cutting off because it's seizing from overheating. I doubt it's the timing causing it to overheat...if it were that bad he would probably notice other problems and it would be hard to start in the first place. It could be overheating due to a lot of things considering it's a "new" motor, I would bet that there are air pockets in the cooling system...which would also account for why it only reads ~190.

Or, it could be a bad alternator?

:edit: And as to my comment on your engine being done--if you've run it so hot that it has seized up multiple times, the engine--even if it's new--is quite possibly screwed.

so lets play this out again. after u let it sit for a while will it crank rite back up. the problem that i had a while back was the Voltage Regulator. it not expensive at all and its cheapest at Auto Zone.
Symptoms:vehicle cranks good then after a while dies, wont crank back. let it sit for about 15 mins and try to start again. it should crank or come really close to doing so. then it is the Voltage Regulator.
Now with the fluid dumping out. take the thermostat out and get a Fail Safe Thermostat from any parts store. this prevents the thermostat from shutting when it fails. i think this is ur other problem but not to sure. i hope i was of some help. and keep the BRONCO running strong

I agree on the timing being off. If the timing is off 180 deg it will still run but is hard to crank and may/ often runs hot.
