So a guy I know well replaced his cap, rotor and spark plugs after his 1998 K1500 started misfiring. When he cranked it idled and ran better, a quick 1/2 mile ride down the road and it was misfiring worse than before when he turned around in a drive way.He had his fuel injection replaced w a MPFI and it still had a misfire. The guy who replaced the spider found the oem injector was leaking AND that 2 of the plug wires were switched by some dumbass, I mean the guy I know well. The truck was driven about 1 mile back home when it first started to misfire, and another mile w the test drive after the plugs/cap/rotor were replaced. My question is how much damage/cylinder wash could of occurred?

I wouldn't worry about it at all....I mean we dont know how long he OEM injector was leaking and if it had been a problem for a long long time maybe. But the couple miles with the plugs reversed I wouldnt think twice about.

Can always take a large syringe and inject a little oil into the cylinder thru the spark plug hole and let it sit for a few minutes to lubricate the cylinder and bring wet compression up. Run it a few minutes and change the spark plug should be good to send it.

Spiders in and it's running better then before it started to misfire. It had a shake at idle that made the console rattle before the misfire. When I went to pic up the truck w the new spider It was not misfiring but the idle was low and it was still shaking at idle, 5 miles from home and the engine light came on. Got home and it had a P1404 code....... I'm apparently getting to old to wrench. While trying to find the cause of the misfire weeks ago I removed the EGR and cleaned it and re-installed it as the sun was going down. I looked at it tonight and noticed the EGR was touching the heater hose from the water pump and I knew I screwed it up. I installed it rotated 180* ! I also found the gasket fell out while I put it on backwards at sundown, it was not there when I removed it tonight. Got a gasket and rotated the EGR and now the truck is running w/o the shake and it Idles @ 700 rpm...:dumbass:

Mpg before the mpfi was almost 15 mpg town/highway. Checked at 80 miles after the swap and it was 12.2 :confused:The battery died while I was working on the truck weeks ago before the spider was replaced. When I saw the low number I hoped the computer was still resetting. Last check it was 17.38 ! all in town, not bad for a 23yo 5.7
