Broke a driver side outer and flanges off Friday night pulling a range rover out of the hole at Art Lilly. Went to the salvage yard sat moring and all they had were cv shafts, so I grabbed 1 and wheeled all weekend. I've got a 95 yj with 4.10's, 33's, and a true Trac in the front. Just wondering if the cv's were any stronger

Thanks. Been doing a lot of reading on it, I didn't realize that cv's keep a constant speed when you turn the wheels side to side, and joints actually change wheel speed from the inner axle when at a turn

U joints change speed at both axles when in a turn, as a function of how much turn angle. A U joint pivot travels in a elliptical path during every revolution when at an angle, which is why there is a cyclic increase and decrease of wheel speed during every joint revolution. That effect is often worse on the inner axle because steering geometry usually turns the inside wheel more than the outside wheel. Same thing with driveshafts, which is why joints need to be clocked properly so those cyclic speed changes during each revolution will tend to cancel each other instead of adding and turning into a massive vibration.

CV joints are smoother because the joint doesn't follow the elliptical path, so it keeps a constant velocity during each joint revolution without any cyclic speed change.

Depends on the specific joints being compared for a specific application. The smoothness of a CV joint comes from how the joint functions, not how strong it is. You can make a weak CV joint or a strong CV joint, and they would both work the same and be smooth. I know that's a shitty answer, but it's just as vague as the question... :D

I honestly don't know the specifics of the available joints for a D30 and which are stronger in that application, I just know how they function.
