I have a '91 ford d60 axle that I'm gearing to 5.38 with a new carrier, locker, etc. Starting from an empty housing, so I can't "reverse engineer" anything. There are two fender washers (for lack of a better term) that fit on the pinion. One is flat and the other is offset slightly, both are as thin as sheet metal and the OD on both is ~5-6" IIRC. The guy that is doing the gearing for me remembered that there is something odd about them and their placement, but we didn't want to tear into the d60 on his buggy to look since it was approaching midnight. What are these things called? Where to they get installed? Any pics, links or explanations would be greatly appreciated! Hopefully my description doesn't add to the confusion...

TIA,
Brandon

The larger one is a slinger and also acts as a 0.030" pinion depth shim. It goes on the pinion shaft between the pinion head and inner pinion bearing. The other one sits between the inner pinion bearing race and the housing. It acts as a fluid baffle.
The larger one is about 5"-6" and the smaller of the two should be closer to 3-4" or so (the diameter of the larger pinion bearing race)

Google Dana 60 Bible. It will have every answer you would probably ever have about a Dana 60 front end!

Oops..including exploded views!

Jody is basically a walking axle "bible" :smokin:

I agree, helps a lot.
