I found a set of D70s but theyre outta a 72 truck so theyre drums front and rear... I was wondering how hard theyd be to change over to disc brakes, and if it would be more cost effiecient to just buy d60s with disc brakes? thanks

The rear isn't too bad, but can be tricky. Not sure about the front. If it's open knuckle I think the Dodge D60 stuff might work, if it's closed I'd just keep looking for a 60 front. Great Lakes offroad makes brackets that will fit, but you may have to fab some spacers to move the caliper out towards the hub, or find a rotor with a deeper hat (Dodge I think). However, on my D70HD, even with the shallower Chevy rotors I'm having to move my calipers in 0.75" toward the center, so I'm going to just use weld on brackets. One other thing to mention, I found on the D70HD, it has a little extra meat on the back of the hubs that will have to be turned down on a lathe so that the rotor will fit flush to the back of the hub. Notta big deal, took me about an hour to do both hubs.

well i think they are open knuckle. if not someone let me know. ive looked in a book i have and it says that those years dodges were the best to get besides disc brakes, so im assuming that they wouldnt be closed. if someone could possibly verify this, itd be great?

Also, how bad would it be to run drum brakes temp on it? i know they have more braking power but also have more fade and get water in them. if there is anyone else out there that has done a brake swap on the front or knows much about them, id appreciate all the info i get?

thanks, BEN

Rob can get you the brackets made if needed, he is making me a set of custom 9" disk brake brackets.
