After tinkering around with Dad's jeep for a few years, we finally got it out to URE yesterday. It was Dad's first time wheeling. Both the old jeep and the old man performed well, considering it rained all morning out there and everything was slick as snot. BTW, it's a '54 CJ3B. It has a completely stock drivetrain with the exception of some 31X10.50's. The tub is all aluminum and was custom made about 2 previous owners ago. It has only 17K original miles as it was a "fire jeep" at a mill. There's a few more things to be done to it, but as it sits, it runs and drives well as long as you keep it under 45mph. It kinda runs out of gear beyond that.

Like I said, it was my old man's first time wheeling. I had a blast sharing my chosen hobby with him. I hope this is only the beginning of a lot of good times.

I love a flatty

First of all you keep saying your "old man" Remember, age and treachery will over come youth and vigor every time!
That aside, it's an awesome Jeep. Love the old ones! I had a 48 at one time. recapped 235 mud n snow tires and I thought I was the Shit! And yep, much over 45 and you start doing damage to the engine. Who cares though, you are stylin' and profilin'
But the best thing is that you and your dad were out for the day doing something together!

While there is a little youth left at 34, there's not much vigor. My own little one uses up most of it.:) The treachery already kicked in a few years ago.

i wish my dad would even want to go wheelin with me he thinks it is a waste of time destroyin a perfectly good vehicle.but either way that thing rocks i would love to find something like that. your a lucky guy

Dad's first jeep was also a '48. I heard a lot of stories of the good times he had in that thing. Funny enough, it was in worse shape than this one and this was in the late 1960's. When this one came up for sale, I knew he had to get back into the game. Besides, his stories were the reason I bought my first jeep 14 years ago.

Hmmmm! My grandpaw & dad also had a '4x flatty (dad tells stories about rigging magnetos to the tub = old school "anti-theft")...

Printing off a few of your pics might just be enough to overwhelm his "sensibility" and send down this slippery sloop! Would be great "therapy" for his old Maytag arse! :D

Awesome. That's what I too started wheeling in with my gpa 15 years ago. Hopefully the bug will bite him too and you'll have another rig to spend all of your time building. :flipoff2:
